On the 13th of september Liverpool play hosts to United at Anfield.

Both teams have failed to set the Premiership alight so far this season. How does everyone see this game going?

For whatever reason we always beat Liverpool no matter how badly we play so I wouldn't be suprised if this were the same.

This is true. Even when we have played better we normally end up losing this contest. I am in no doubt it will be a let down, spectacle wise. This match up has been getting worse for the neautral every season.

Be interesting to see if Berbatov and Reira make their debuts. I am not sure Reira will. Rafa doesnt always like to throw new singings into big games. Be good to see him start though. Show some intent on winning. For me, this is a must win game.

Because it always gets reactions from people. Like above. But for me, it still is the bigget game in the league. We're not what we used to be but its still a game between two footballing giants. Two most succsfull clubs in England.

something tells me both Gerrard and Torres will feature in the game, despite their reported injuries

looking forward to watching Berba with Tevez and Rooney

Here's how I'd play it.

-----------------------VDS

Brown---------Rio----------Vidic---------Evra

Nani------------??---------Scholes------Rooney

-----------------Tevez
---------------------------Berbatov

Yep, patience is running thin on the Rooney front. Tevez is playing much better than Rooney has in quite some time so Rooney drops down the pecking order.

Carrick and Hargreaves are still recovering but should be okay in 11 days time so either of them in the centre.

-----------?????
----Anderson Scholes

--Tevez Berbatov Rooney

???? = Hargreaves or Carrick if either are fit if not maybe Fletcher.

I'm sure i said last year it would be 1-0 to United. I weren't surprised when it wasn't either. It doesn't matter if we batter them - they will win. Probably by a corner or free-kick too.

Personally this year i'd be very happy if we managed to just stop United from gaining ground on us in the two meetings, meaning two draws. We're so bad against United it's an achievement to breach their goal.

Our start of the season does not inspire at all either.

I think Gerrard will be back though. Torres probably won't be. I hope so just to give us a little bit of a chance.

Team:

------------------------- Reina -------------------------

--- Carragher --- Skrtel ---- Agger ---- Arbeloa ---

------------- Mascherano --- Alonso -----------------

------- Gerrard ------- Keane --------- Riera -------

------------------------- Babel ------------------------

Judging by our full-backs so far this season United would rip us to shreds. I've gone for Carragher at right-back because of that and Arbeloa at left-back (something he's very comfortable doing and something he did very well in the past). Defensively that will leave us better off.

Those two should focus on keeping our defence tight. Then Mascherano and Alonso can focus purely on winning the midfield which we've struggled to do in past meetings, rather than suring up our full-back positions when they attack.

Keane worked well in the hole against Villa so stick him there again. Babel i've gone with up front for just his raw pace and power. If he runs and runs at United's defence and chases ball's he'll be a handful if nothing else. He's better in the centre anyway.

Gerrard i've stuck on the right because he never does anything against United in the centre. I don't fancy our chances against Ferdinand and Vidic and like in the past meeting we had a lot of the ball out wide, which is where i'd target the opposition's weakness. More-so than in the centre. He'll help keep Evra back too. Likewise on the left i've stuck Riera in. Brown's there for the taking and the way Riera's harped on all summer he must be enthusiastic. Get him out wide and just try and put dangerous ball's into the box.

There's two problems mind with that formation and one is there's no room for Kuyt. I couldn't find space. If we need to attack the wings relentlessly and cause their full-backs problems he isn't ideal. He's better in the box. And also people will whinge like mad if we lose because the selection is not "straight forward".

I don't expect that formation but it is what i'd consider.

Kuyt will start. He always starts.

Anyway for Man Utd.

If Torres is unavailable I like the look of that team ben. Something I would certainly say is the team and formation best suited to cause United a little bit of trouble. Its just never going to happen. I think the back 4 might however. Against the stronger teams I can see rafa employing this just to save face and not conceed.

Its a sorry state of affairs that we result to this sort of defensive play at home. I am certain this is going to be a very negative and unatractive game.

We aren't playing Chelsea mate.

We're playing Man U, who admittedly have a good defence, but it ain't that good!

Anyway, i like Ben's thinking, I agree with him, and would like to see the team he recommended play.

A lot of people, myself included, seem to forget that Man Utd did win the league and CL last year. This year we have the exact same team plus a real forward. Chelsea might look good on paper but we aren't second best just yet.
