I know there are a few Barca supporters here so I'd just like to ask what you consider Barcelona as. A Spanish club or a Catelonian one. I know there is a load of political issues in Spain both in Catelan and the Basque regions but is the feeling being a Barca supporter that you are part of your own independent state?

Or likewise to Real supporters what are your opinions on this issue...

Both.
Barcelona belongs to Catalonia, and Catalonia belongs to Spain.
If you say other thing, you're a liar and a freaky.

Does that mean you also consider yourself Catalan rather than Spanish in nationality?

Just because Barca is supposedly Catalan might not mean he considers himself that as nationality.

But anyway this has got to be a main reason for the Barca - Real rivalry. I was lucky enough to see Barca v Madrid several years back at the Camp Nou while on holiday and the animosity between the two clubs was more than I ever expected...

Thank you royalreading.

Raul, I dont understand spanish but the word "PUTA" (in your sig ) doesnt seem to be a good word. Anytime I hear the word PUTA in a movie, trouble always follows. What does it mean?

How is this even a topic??? If people in here feel like there catalan then they are Spanish aswell because catalonia is part of Spain. It is not a choice one or the other, you can't choose your own nationality and if you could you couldn't pick catalan as your nationality because catalonia is not a country, its a region in Spain.

Do you even know the history? Catalans consider themselves to be independent and an autonomous country, even though this is unofficial they don't call themselves Spaniards. The topic was created to discuss the issue and whether it is right.

Maybe it's you the one who doesn't know the history. It's a minor of the catalonians (mainly republicans) who don't call them spaniards. I have catalonian friends who feel catalonian and spanish, as I feel madrileņo and spanish.
Anyway, I don't know why are we discussing this here, this is supposed to be a forum of football, not politics. And we're talking about politics!!

Yes I do know the history, I know of the Catalan population feeling they are independent. I have a Spanish friend from Bergueda who says it is not a "minority" but actually a substantial amount of Catelonians. And if you re-read the title of this topic you'd understand we were originally talking about Barcelona i.e football not politics.

Oh yeah, the tittle is a good way to hide the real topic. And what has to do with football if it's catalonian or/and spanish?? Maybe you haven't seen any of the matches Spain has played in Barcelona, with an overcrowded Montjuic (55.000 people) all with spanish flags. Maybe you haven't seen people like Xavi, Puyol, Pau Gasol, Alex Corretja, Joan Manuel Serrat, Estopa, Dani Pedrosa... feeling proud of being spanish.

Read what I said earlier. I have seen Real v Barca live at the Camp Nou. I saw more Catalan flags than Spanish ones, in fact I can't remember seeing many Spanish flags at all. The players you list are representing Spain, fine. Whether they want to play for Spain is different. Here Spain is considered a divided country. Barcelona is playing in the Spanish league, I was querying what people opinions on the matter are. Thats how this is about football, we are talking about fans and how Barcelona CF is perceived by the people of Catalan.

This is not about politics! I have not asked whether you think it is right or wrong, just asked what the Catalan opinion is in Spain. This is not about what players think but the clubs fans.

The problem is that you think that if you're catalonian you can't be spanish, and that's totally false. And I don't mind what do you think in England, honestly. You probably have the worst media in the world.

Well we have reports coming from Spain that indicate this feeling. I was trying to get an understanding of the fans perspective, I think I can safely say I know more about the Catalan/ Spanish situation.

Hahaha, yeah you wish.
You pretend to know more about my country than me?
Anyway, there's no discussion, Cataluņa belongs to Spain, if somebody doesn't like Spain, can perfectly go and live abroad.

What are you talking about?

I said after this conversation I know more than before. I didn't say I know more than you at all.

And initially I was asking Catalans, I knew what the Real Madrid response would be...Catalan = Spain

Anyway, you said you didn't see any spanish flag in the Barcelona - Real Madrid. Normal thing, Spain wasn't playing. Spain has played in Barcelona several times and the stadium has always been crowded.
But I'm not gonna change your mind and you aren't gonna change mine, so let's stop, don't you think so?
