New Oldham boss John Sheridan is poised to make his first move since replacing Ronnie Moore on Thursday - by recruiting an assistant manager.

The new man has not been named, but Sheridan told the Latics' website he is "vastly experienced and well-respected in the game as an excellent coach."

He added: "There is a lot of hard work ahead. I know my first job will to be to get some players out.

"But I will be looking to bring in better players to improve the side."
