The Ligue 1 title may already belong to Lyon, but Les Gones have no intention of taking their foot off the pedal as they showed by hammering 10-man Bordeaux 5-1.
Consider it a championship celebration in front of their own fans, then, with Lyon having only recently clinched their fourth successive crown. Bordeaux took a 10th-minute lead through Albert Riera, but Florent Malouda got Lyon back on level terms and after the visitors' Cyril Rool was sent off, two strikes by Cris gave them a commanding 3-1 lead at half-time. French international Sidney Govou added a pair of second-half goals to complete the 5-1 win. On Saturday, Lille tightened their grip on a Champions League place with an impressive 3-1 away victory over Nantes. Stephane Dumont gave the visitors the lead early on in the game, only for Nicolas Savinaud to level the scores. But second-half strikes from Rafael Schmitz and Mathieu Debuchy made sure Lille cemented their second-place berth. Paris St Germain salvaged a 2-2 draw at home to Sochaux with two injury-time goals from Mario Yepes and Sylvain Armand after two Francileudo Santos goals looked to have settled the match. Marseille's Champions League hopes were ended by a 0-0 draw at Auxerre, where their French international midfielder Benoit Pedretti was sent off. An Ernesto Javier Chevanton hat-trick inspired Monaco to a 5-2 win over Bastia with Javier Saviola and Emmanuel Adebayor also on target. Youssouf Hadji and Pascal Chimbonda scored for the relegation-threatened Corsicans. At the other end of the table, Kamel Larbi's goal gave Nice a precious win at the expense of Ajaccio in a relegation dogfight. There was also good news for Caen, who dispatched St Etienne 2-0 with Cyrille Watier and Ronald Zubar on the mark. Strasbourg banished any lingering relegation doubts with a 3-1 win in the Alsace-Lorraine derby match against a Metz team that is still in trouble at the wrong end of the table. Mamadou Niang opened the scoring for Strasbourg only for Gregory Leca to equalise for the team from Lorraine. Two second-half goals from Mickael Pagis, one a penalty, gave the spoils to the Alsatians in front of their fans at the Stade Meinau with a second celebration in a fortnight following the club's Coupe de la Ligue final win on April 30 at the Stade de France. John Utaka ensured Lens got the win they needed if they were to maintain their hopes of snatching UEFA Cup qualification by hitting a hat-trick as his side hammered Rennes 5-2. The Nigerian striker struck twice before the break to cancel out Alexander Frei's opener, while he wrapped up his treble two minutes after Eric Carriere had struck Lens' third in the 57th minute. Frei reduced the deficit shortly after but that was the best Rennes could muster in response and an Abdeslam Ouaddou own goal completed the scoring in the closing stages. Already-relegated Istres secured a pyrrhic 1-0 win over Toulouse, who had Pantxi Sirieix sent off for a second bookable offence in the offence, with the goal scored late on by substitute Azzedine Ourahou. |
