Brazilian supremo Robinho has pledged his long-term future to Manchester City. The Samba starlet insisted his move to Eastlands was not financially motivated, and stated he wants to be part of a revolution following the club's takeover by the mega rich Abu Dhabi United Group.

Robinho has made a sensational start to his City career netting seven goals already, having set himself an ambitious target of 30 goals this season.

"I hope to make history at this club and become one of the great heroes at Manchester City. I'm in a very good phase and I hope this will continue," he said.

"I came to City because I saw them growing and making progress. Can they be as big as Real Madrid? I hope so, yes,"

So do you agree with Robinho? Can Manchester City be as big as Spanish giants Real madrid?

Nope. Well I say that but it would take a hell of along time to become anywhere near Real. If they have the right manager in charge making the right signings they could become a team that could beat Real in matches but to become a bigger club than Real would be almost impossible.

It takes more than just a bottomless pit of money to be big. You also need history. And it'll be some time before Man City can build the history that Real Madrid posses.

No.

But they can become as good as them. Or better. Look at Chelsea at the moment. They are currently better than Real Madrid, and who would've envisaged that 5 years ago.

As everyone else is saying Real Madrid's "bigness" relates to their history as much as it does to their financial strength and reputation. Man City's money could easily buy them a team capable of beating Madrid, but they can't buy history overnight. As for Robinho, he's made a good start, but let's see if his enthusiasm is the same through the winter and maybe an injury or two, a dip in form and so on.

No I don't agree with Robinho!

Man City will never become as big as Real Madrid!

I would bet still the Brazilian had never even heard of them before and only
signed for them by mistake because he thought he was joining Man Utd.

Man City's new owners may have a few quid but you cant always buy success.

If City arent carefull the richest club in the country could find itself in the championship.

The only way Man City will ever be as big as Madrid is if Madrid do a Nottingham Forrest and languish themselves in the lower leagues to obscurity. History means nothing when you're not in the top division.

If Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan stays long enough they can.

Given time, they can achieve whatever they like. But it would mean achieving huge success over a 20-50 year period i suppose. And i can't see any foreign owner keeping the money pumping in for that long. The fantasy fades and it'll be withdrawn, just like Abramovich at Chelsea will leave soon enough.

I think they can become a 'young' Real Madrid in that they will assemble a group of superstars and buy a 'galactico' or 3 every transfer window but as everyone says it takes time to build the history of a club like Madrid.

One things for sure tho, it looks like the owners sure are going to give it a shot.

Yes.

In terms of dollars and expenditure and debt.

No.

They won't have the history, the fans or the right formula.

Hughes isn't good enough to manage them, his coaching staff are almost the same Pearce and Sven had and I don't see anyone who will move to them in January who will even give them a chance of finishing in the top 6 this season. The squad is wasted under such poor management. To me it is obvious that Hughes heart bleeds Manchester Red, hes probably trying to get them relegated Laughing

You can't buy prestige.

You can buy all the players in the world and win all the trophies on this planet. But in the end of the day it's some rich guy that picked the club name out of a hat that he can spend his billions on.

Some might say that Real Madrid do the same thing, by buying players for outrageous sums, but it's different cause they earned the cash through success, they didn't buy it.
