Liverpool and Spain's star striker Fernando Torres

The Northwest Barclays Premier League Player of the year has been announced.

That award went to Liverpool’s striker Fernando Torres. The Spanish striker scored thirty three goals for Liverpool in his first season with the club. He was also a key figure in Spain’s 2008 European Championship success.

Other awards were made last night. Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs was named Footballer of the Year. Manchester United’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award. David Moyes won the Manager of the Year Award and Tom Finney was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for his exploits for both England and Preston North End.

thoughts? I think that ronaldo deserved the award but i am sure as hell delighted that the arrogant tw*t never won it

I did laugh when i found this out. All Torres' hard work has finally paid off.

Nah but Ronaldo will probably be upset he's not won it, him being how he is, so it's good in that sense. Smile

Well done Fernando.

Well done El Nino.

At least you've finally managed to win something after last season's efforts for Liverpool.

The subheading is defamatory.

This award is inclusive of, but not restrictive to, the Northwest.

Remove the "only" part.
