John Terry escapes punishment again and again |
|
It seems that there was a thread about whether Ronaldo gets preferential treatment by refs and I seem to think (which is confirmed by the Chelsea vs Arsenal game) that Terry is the one who gets that privilege. A few months back he had a red being rescinded by the FA. In last years Champion League Final, he clearly spat at Tevez and nothing was said about it. If it were Barton or Rooney, all hell would have broken loose and the media would've crucified them. It seems his reputation as Mr Chelsea, England captain and all is actually concealing the fact that he is not as good as he is made out to be. He makes 2-3 mistakes per game and his challenges are sometimes terrible.

He's England captain, they get away with everything, just ask Mr Shearer.

Hugely overrated, his all guts - 100% commitment style of play reminds the purists of English defenders of yesteryear but it covers up his lack of technical skill, positioning, and pace.
Id take a fit Ledley King, or Jonathan Woodgate any day and ofcourse Ferdinand. |

I'd take Ferdinand over him, but not King or Woody, if I'm honest. Terry's positioning is actually very good - it has to be because of his lack of pace. Also, he's incredibly brave. He will genuinely put his neck on the line. Plus he's a better threat at set pieces.
About the foul yesterday, I agree that it should have been a red card. If Dider Zokora or Papa Bouba Diop did that, for eample, I think it would have been an straight red card. But because Terry is English and he's the Captain, it gives him more leeway. Rooney is another English player who gets favourable decisions. |

Didnt both players go in two footed?
|

|
No. I don't think Sagna went in two footed.
Terry overran the ball and in a desperate attempt to recover, he jumped two footed into the challenge. OK, he got the ball, but it was a potential leg breaker. |

When I saw it live it looked 50/50. Super Slow mo' tends to make some tackles look like war crimes.

Yeah, it was a 50/50, in the regard that both players had an even chance of getting the ball. The issue lies with Terry's method of getting it.

jumping in with two feet is completely unnecessary.
ive played football for years and never felt the need to do it once. and thats playing on pitches that remove your skin if you slide on them. lunging in with two feet is understandable on them, on perfectly watered and smooth surfaces it is simply reckless. Sagna was fortunate to walk away from it. |

What about Bellamy's challenge on Arbeloa? That was a nasty one too...
But ye, Terry got his when he got kicked in the face in the Carling Cup final. Ahhhh |

no ...when i played a bit i never jumped in like that , i just kicked them with one leg ...they still went down easy enough.. |
