Newey staying put

Grimsby insist defender Tom Newey will not be leaving the club this summer.

"Tom is under 24 so we have the right to retain his registration for another season but we do have to offer improved terms," chairman John Fenty explained. "Because we hold Tom's registration, any move for him would have to be done through Grimsby Town. "We do see Tom as a major part of our squad and we have made an improved offer to him, effectively keeping him at the club," he told the club website.
