Phil Scolari facing sack?
Article by Shane Edwards

Manchester United have added further pressure on Phil Scolari as they outclassed Chelsea at Old Trafford this afternoon. Manchester United looked vastly superior whilst Chelsea lacked cutting edge.

Betfair have today slashed the odds on Scolari being sacked to a low of 3/1, however Chelsea still sit second in the Premier League just four points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Can big Phil turn things around? Or is the time up for the ex Brazil and Portugal boss?

Chelsea have looked below average at certain stages of this season. I think they can rework it, and a new Manager coming in with players who are so well established, it must be difficult to readjust your tactical nature and footballing mind to adapt to the whole scenario.

I think Scolari can make a very successful team there, but again it'll take time to readjust the squad to suit his own style. That squad still reeks of a Mourinho. Avram Grant actually did a decent job trying to maintain that but Scolari is trying to alter it and we've seen that in their performances this season.

They badly miss Essien as well. They look flimsy without him. Without Makélélé coming in either, they lack energy & power and a bit of balance there.

I think he could be sacked by the end of the season but I think they can pick it up. It's still new for Scolari no matter how experienced he is. This League truly is a League of it's own.

I think it's ridiculous he may get sacked. He's not had that much money to spend and has had no opportunity to build his own squad.

I agree with that. And given the funds to bring in his own players, and time, he will build a great team i'm sure.

But he has failed to impress in every big game, and his tactics have been questionable. Also, defensively Chelsea look worse than ever.

Time is not a commodity at Chelsea - Scolari will go before the end of the season.

You could see it on the player's faces at the end of the game yesterday - they don't believe in him, and I reckon we'll see player power force him out.

Anyone else notice how Chelsea is virtually a mirror image of what Real Madrid did 5-10 years ago?

I've mentioned that before.

Both reached incredible heights, no one could touch them, but it couldn't last, and their volatility led to them imploding. Only they could put and end to their dominance, because they were simply too good for anyone else to stop.

The main difference between the two though, is that Real Madrid were a profit making business. Unlike Chelsea, who are at completely the other end of the scale.

Do you think Chelsea fans are starting to panic? Very little money is being spent by Mega rich owner Mr Abramovic. He seems less interested each season that goes by.

I've been thinking the same for a while Shane. Maybe his time is up after this game. Both Mourinho and Grant went after bad games, so why can't he?

Actually I think alot of people agreed with you and thought he should be given more time since he did well with them but we all knew with Roman it was never going to last.

I agree Millsy, Phil hasnt exactly done anything different to Jose Mourinho, or Avram Grant... However.. i think we're just going to have to wait and see at the end of the Season. If Chelsea come out on top...Then i guess he's going to keep his job. But losing to Man United isnt exactly a Rare thing.. Smile

I wouldn't go that far!

He didn't win anything.
He inherited Mourinho's team - a team already built for winning trophies.
He was at Chelsea whilst Mourinho was there, so he knew Mourinho's training drills and tactics, so he just had to carry on as things were.

Still a hard job to do, mind, but my point is that things were already in place for him to succeed.

No one's mentioned Steve Clarke's departure in all of this. To me, he's been a massive factor in Chelsea's current demise. Scolari's English isn't great and Clarke was a brilliant voice to the players, plus he knows the English game inside out. It says a lot when Mourinho wanted him to stay as his assistant.

It was a very wise move by Zola bringing him on board at West Ham in my opinion.

He wont be sacked as long as they are still in the Champions League, that is his and Romans main objective in my opinion.

Phil Scolari was hired to bring the title or Champions League trophy to Chelsea ....if he does not then he has failed .....you dont usually get 2 or 3 seasons to do that at Chelsea ...it is almost a cast iron certainty he will be sacked if he does not win either ..

I don't think time is up yet for the ex Brazil and Portugal boss........

This Chelsea side is still Mourinhos team and Avram Grant didn't even get a chance to
change it or bring in his own players after 1 year in the job so Scolari deserves a chance in my opinion

So far he has only be able to bring in Deco and has sold Wright Phillips and Bridge..........

Its not his fault that Chelsea's owner Red Rom has refused to release any funds for new players!

In the long run I dont't think Scolari will succeed at Stamford Bridge but give the guy a go to see what he can do!

Getting rid of Drogba for a start wouldnt be a bad idea...............

Thats what I would do if I was Chelsea's manager.

Who had that avatar where it was Avram trying to organize his team and it was just him waving his arms around like a child in the special needs class. *cough*floody*cough* Wink

I don't think he was hopeluss but I don't think he had anywhere near enough charisma and confidence to ever be the type of manager the Chelsea fans would want at their club.
