No. Things like this have happened millions of times in football & I cant rember a anyone getting a rematch just beacause a ref made a wrong decion. And if a player makes contact with a player inside the box (no matter if he dives) its a penalty & he did make contact whether he meant to or not.

absolutely not!!!! if a rematch was given for every game that resulted in a dubious penalty decision, then we would have an endless number of rematches taking place. its all part of football and if rematch was given then clubs in the future who have also lost in the same manner will be screaming for a rematch and fifa or the fa (or whichever governing body) would have to agree

I agree with the other posters. What a stupid question!!
You aussies have to accept that Australia didn't deserve to win that match and the penalty in my view was legitimate eventhough it may have given the impression of diving.

I'd say give them a rematch however, not during the worldcup, just some kind of exhibition game with Italy and we'll see if they can fluke a win over the Aussies....they certainly did play very well and I was extremely impressed with the Aussies performance despite their lack of goals...personally, I think the Aussies game against Italy was the best performance in all of the world cup....just my two cents...

Whoever think there should be a rematch has never watched football before. If that game was the final and italy won the cup, there wouldnt be a rematch. NO REMATCH! What a stupid suggestion.

I don't think there should be a rematch but I also do not believe that should have been a penalty.
I would have liked to see it go to extra time.
Any ref that makes a game deciding call like that in the 92nd minute has got to be have the biggest set of kahunas that I have ever seen.
Tell the guy to get up. Blow the whistle for extra time and hopefully the game will decide itself.

Italy should be disqualified for being the diving cheats that they are. Nevermind the rematch.

bresciano took an excellent dive when materazzi fouled him...please!!! iI wish there was a rematch...italy in good condition will always stuff these guys that could not create a single chance to score aginst a team in 10 men

I cant believe that almost 20% of people who voted think that there should be a rematch. I would have thought even the Aussies who felt hard done by over the result, would not want a rematch. As others have said its just such a stupid question! I wasnt even going to dignify it with a reply until i saw the percentage in favour of this crazy suggestion. Rolling Eyes

Do you know what would make me laugh hard?

If for some really strange crack head reason, there was a rematch and italy scored from a penalty in 90+ mins.

hahahah

The Italians shouldn't be there, VIDEO evidence is now a must for future HIGH PROFILE games to stamp out cheating at that level. That or reviews after the game and a ban for those who cheat. Also referee's need to admit they're wrong and FIFA should reward them for honesty so cards can be recinded.

I'm not wrong.
