Zidane didn't answered to materazzi in an "arrogant and snob" way to him.

As alex said we can clearly see on the video zidane was joking and wasn't trying to offend M.M...
If zidane suddenly headbutted him while he was in a good mood a few seconds before, M.M must have said to him something terrible.
I laughed when i read he said :"the kind of insult you hear so many times on the field you don't even notice them anymore"

Yeah, sure.....Do you seriously think marco is saying the whole truth? Rolling Eyes

Of course materazzi said somethin that ofended zidane very much. U can see at his face.

We make our future, Zidane decided not to stay calm and decided to make the revenge in that moment. Personally i understand his atitude and im with him, also it was a bad way of finishing his carrear.

Carrie, if your mother is dying and a stupid asshole says a bad joke on the death of your mother and your family ? Are you sure you would behave as a 100% professionnal ?

Belis, I say this to you honestly. If my mother were dying I would be at her bedside. Not on a football pitch. There is no trophy in the world more important than that.

But if she was not dying, but was ill and probably watching the match, then sure I'd be on the pitch. And if someone said something like that...what would any ill mother prefer to see? A child who leads his team to collect a trophy/runner-up medal, and then is appluaded and cheered by the entire stadium as a hero of a generation...or a child who acts like a thug and gets sent off in disgrace! I know which I would prefer, and I *believe* that is the call I would make. (I do not say 'certain' as no-one on earth can be certain until it happens. But I truly believe it.)

But we do not know that is what was said yet. I think everyone guesses to whatever suits their line of thought best (mother/racist etc).

Until we do know, how can we judge truly?

But I stand by what I said. No excuse for violence, not in public, not when thousands hold you as a shining star.

Honest answer indeed, but you never know how you would react after 1hour 1/2 of play, after having been hurted, tackled all the game long(I do not mean uncorrectly).

I don't pretend that Zidane red card is not deserved but I would really know what M. said that provoked such an outburst and I doubt that it is the "usual stuff" as said M. in his recent interview

Maybe someone here still hasn't got the point.

ZIDANE (RE)ACTED IN A FOOLISH, CHILDISH, STUPID, ARROGANT AND INAPPROPRIATE MANNER.

That's it. Can't you see it? There is no more to it than that.

It's SHAMEFUL how people here and even newspapers are trying to justify Zidane's (re)action. I read The Sun's online edition earlier and they show no more than understanding towards Zidane.

If M. insulted his mother, do you really think he knew she was (if she really was) ill or dying. Haven't you ever heard people curse each others' mothers withuot even knowing them? Things like "Your mum's so dumb that she...".

Come on - physical assault MUST NOT BE TOLLERATED OR JUSTIFIED in ANY way.

So please STOP IT!!!

It is you who don't get the point.

The problem is not Zidane anymore the problem is this dumbass of Materazzi.

Zidane made an unpardonable act, he paid , deserved, period.

Now what I wish is to send back M. in the stinking hole where he should have never come out from.

hey, guys. i'm 33 now. i played football at very very low level for 14 years. You can't have an idea of how many insults and swearings i've heard. everybody calling about my mother, my father, a sister(that i don't have) and so on. and is not only that. people walking on yor feet, pushing your hairs, kicking you every moment. I never reacted like that. NEVER. and i was palying for FREE, not getting millions!!!! Winning the Wc means getting 250000 euros!!! You should behave only for that!
And more: have you any idea of how many insults a black player gets every year in Italy, in Spain and yes also in England even if you don't like to admit it.
So, don't be childish. Zidane is one of the best football players in history! He has responsabilities.
I'm very sad about what happened last night. I'm a Juventus supporter and Zidane for me was something special. It's easy to say "he is a genius", but when you've seen him every sunday at Delle Alpi for years you really love him. Now, this is another terrible thing for me, even if we won the world cup (not cheating. Cheating is what, sigh, my club did).

I hear what you say, belis, and I too am very very curious to know. Not that I expect we shall ever know the absolute truth, and not that it makes any real difference after the event, but it is one of those big questions now!

As to the the second part of your post, I have to say I am of the opposite view. I cannot think of anything that Matzy could possibly have said that Zidane hasn't heard before in all his many years of footballing. I don't think there are any original insults left!

I don't know about his (Zidane's) state of mind. He is a hard man, and has fought hard football matches at the highest level. Of course, he does have a reputation for violence against his opponents (Zidane's previous record for head-butting is damning. He was given a five-match Champions' League ban in 2000 for doing the same to Jochen Kientz of Hamburg when he was at Juventus. He was sent off during France's victorious 1998 World Cup campaign for stamping on Faoud Amin of Saudi Arabia.) So I wonder what insults he claimed were given to him that time? It does add up to a bad overall picture.

It sounds as though I dislike Z - far from it. Up until that moment I always thought he was one of the few 'unique' footballers even though I'm not French! I was even saying on this forum how I hoped he scored a goal in the final on his farewell match! But seeing his anger and violence, now he is a failure in my mind. I think of him as an angry, weak man, too old to be able to handle the pressure any more. And I don't like feeling that way!!!!

I'm an Englander, born and bred. This forum I suppose is where a lot of bad blood between fans is shed about. The 2006 Final match, won by Italy, I thought was desrved and necessary - simply because of penalties - there had to be a winner. Also, they needed to bring some 'credibility' to their football due to scandal in Italy (not scandal in World Cup though!).

Zizou I blame partly for France lack of attack in Extra-time - he reacted inappropriatley in Final of WorldCup. Better to score goal. However, as with England's exit, I blame mostly the manager's flawed tactics. Lippi did better with what he had than Domenech. Both teams showed tremendous spirit in finding their way from bad performances earlier in tournament.

But, I'll say this...Ronaldo was blamed for Rooney's bad behaviour, not Rooney himself (Ronaldo had his house in Chesire, England attacked!!). And, Materazzi was blamed for Zidane's outburst - berated in world media. Lessons must be learnt here.

...and the he said/he said suppositions just keep a-coming!!

A few more "lip reading experts" (if they're such experts how come nearly every one has said something different? Shocked ) and "well places sources" (hmmmmm... Rolling Eyes ) say:

1. Top lip-reader Marianne Frere revealed the Italian told Zidane — who understands the language after playing for Juventus — a high ball was “not for feccia like you”. (Feccia = bad word!!)

2. A source close to the Italian squad claimed that after twisting Zidane’s nipple, Materazzi asked him: “What, don’t you like it?” The French captain replied: “A bit too hard to turn me on.”
But Materazzi shouted: “Well, I did it that way because I know that’s how your mother likes it.”

3. Materazzi’s agent denied any racist slur — and said the attack came when Zidane offered to swap shirts later and the Italian replied: “‘I’d rather take the shirt off your wife.”

I wish they'd get on with it and say what was really said!!! Then we could all argue about who was lying etc..... Embarassed

mmh....interesting

so probably materazzi's insult is about

1) his momma
2) his wife

materazzi denied about insulting his algerian roots calling him "terrorist" (i'm not a lip reader, but I saw the an mpeg. ...it doesn't seems to be any word like "terrorist")

materazzi denied about insulting his mom (mh....he lies! probably! or maybe he insulted his wife)

I think racism insults are horrible. very bad. something that zidane doesn't want to say to newspaper (why???)

maybe because there's a difference between insultg his mother or his race.

he played in juventus for so many years , and surely a lot of players insulted his mom/sister/wife

i'm curious: If Mateeazzi will admit an insult about his mom, and Zidane will confirm......

..................................
.....................................................
............................................
....well...who called him "son of a terrorist whore"????...
.................
..................................
.....................................
..............................
..............
1) the sun
2) l'equipe
3) guardian

Last news.

It seems that Materazzi said , in Roman dialect wich Zizou surely knows "ma va mori ammazzato te, e la tua famiglia!"

The translation is hard, cause litterally is "Go to die, you, and your family", but in fact is an italian (roman) insult that means, more easily, "vaffanculo".

Zizou has is mother at the hospital... so maybe this is the reason for the reaction of the french champion

Yeah, I saw another very similar from a BBC source too:

"The BBC's Ten O'Clock News also called in experts to study the television footage of the incident and determined the following:

Materazzi's first word to Zidane was "no" before he then told him to "calm down".

He then accused him of being a "liar" and wished "an ugly death to you and your family" on the day the Frenchman's mother had been taken to hospital ill. This was followed by "Go f*** yourself".

Zidane's agent, Alain Migliaccio, has hinted that Zidane will soon reveal exactly what was said by Materazzi."

Well hurry up, Monsieur Migliaccio! Otherwise cynical people might start to think you're just waiting to judge what insult the public will be most horrified by and go for that one!!! Eh, it's getting more like a soap opera now.... Confused

On Aol News It says That Materazzi Admitted to saying some thing-----------------

Materazzi, 32, told Gazetta dello Sport: "I held his shirt for a few seconds only, then he turned to me and talked to me, jeering.

"He looked at me with a huge arrogance and said, 'If you really want my shirt, I'll give it to you afterwards.' I replied with an insult, that's true.''

Materazzi has not elaborated on what he did say, but one report suggested he responded with: "I'd rather take the shirt off your wife."

He has denied, however, some of the more vile insults referring to his wife or sister or calling him a terrorist.

"It was one of those insults you're told dozens of times and that you often let fall on a pitch,'' Materazzi said.

"I did not call him a terrorist. I am not a cultured person and I don't even know what an Islamist terrorist is.''

He added: "For me the mother is sacred, you know that.''

The incident marked an unsavoury end to Zidane's career, especially as France went on to lose the match on penalties. The 34-year-old star had said he would retire after the tournament.

I totally agree that Zidane should not have done this, he should have done this : speak to the referee told him about the ''racist comment'' and have materazzi sent off for racism . Well I would find it funny if a player ever does this.
