What do you think our startin 11 should be? Here is my suggestion to the big man MJ...
ROBINSON

JENAS KING DAWSON BENOIT

LENNON CARRICK ZOKORA TAINIO

BERBATOV KEANE

Even though I havent seen Benoit play, he can't be worse than Lee and Jenas played well at right back in the second half against West Brom last season and Stalteri was poor. I still think we need another winger as Andy Reid isn;t good enough and Wayne Routledge is yet to prove himself. A bit more work on Reto Ziegler and he could be ready to start.
Please post your comments so I can see what other yids think

No I don't like that, we need someone to replace Tainio.

Are you sure? Smile

I think it's great that we have so many options at our disposal and this is crucial if we want to make some good progress into the latter stages of the UEFA cup.
My first choice starting XI would be as follows:

------------Robinson------------

Lee---Dawson---King---Ekotto

-------------Zokora-------------

Lennon------Jenas------Tainio

---Berbatov---Keane/Defoe---

Now, I think that's an awesome line-up but there are still a few areas that would worry me and a few reasons why I don't see Jol picking this team.

* Without Carrick it lacks the kind of intricate passing that was so good for us last season.
* Jenas needs to get down to the gym and bulk up a bit or I can see him getting hustled out of possession. Perhaps Huddlestone could play the holding roll with Zokora slightly in front of him or vice-versa. If they could both hone their passing/tackling/shooting then they could cover for eachother which would add some flexibility to the way we'd play. The good thing about Jenas is that he'd be the most likely to chip in with a few goals from the midfield.
* I think Jol will continue to use Lennon sparingly for a little while yet.
* Ekotto has not yet had the chance to prove that he deserves a place in the starting XI.

Obviously there can be many variations of this suggestion and I think we have a squad capable of adapting in order to cope with whatever is thrown at us. I think the following players will also play a key part in the season ahead: Davids, Huddlestone, Stalteri, Ghaly, Murphy, Routledge, Davenport, Gardner and Cerny. Who knows, perhaps the likes of Barnard, Ifil, Ziegler and some of the other youngsters will break through and make a few appearances. Barnard in particular seems to have been used quite a bit during pre-season and has looked sharp by all accounts.
Then we have to take into consideration that we may make a couple more key signings before the window closes which would strengthen us further.

It's all very exciting if you ask me... Cool

A decent line up there but Lee Neutral
The bloke is shocking mate. He runs down the line, gets to a defender, does a few stepovers and then crosses to the bloke marking the near post Laughing Chimbonda will fill that position fine. Ghaly was good against Inter so I hope he gets a good few games next season, but we still need a left midfielder, and hopefully the money from Carrick ( Crying or Very sad ) can get us one.

Well Carrick won't there now.
Not sure about Jenas in that position either.

Yeah I'm not too happy about that prospect either. Perhaps this would be better:

-------------------Robinson------------------

Chimbonda---Dawson---King---------Ekotto

-----------------Huddlestone-----------------

Lennon/-----------Zokora-------------Tainio/
Jenas------------------------------------Petrov

--------Berbatov--------Keane/Defoe-------

Whatever happens I think we will end up with 2 good players in each position. I have to say Matt that I quite like Lee. He's very energetic and I think he could do well on the right if we fail to sign Chimbonda.
From now on, if anyone has any line-up suggestions then stick them in here. Even include players that we're linked with if you like as it could give us an idea of how the team 'might' line up this season. Smile

That line up is good but a massive insult to Lennon. Having Lennon/ Jenas is insulting Laughing

I do as well, but Lennon must be starting. I don't understand why people hate jenas so much and why he got slated for not being in the world cup squad. Not his fault if the bloke picks him is it???
