Sam Allardyce believes El-Hadji Diouf would join Bolton on a long-term contract because of love not money.

The 24-year-old Senegal striker is officially back on the books of Liverpool after a loan spell at the Reebok Stadium.

But Diouf appears to have no future there and Allardyce wants him to spearhead their first UEFA Cup campaign.

"I would say our chances of getting him are pretty good," said the Trotters boss.

"The one thing in our favour is that we have built up a relationship with Diouf that is good and strong.

"That can mean a lot - a lot more than money that's for sure because it helps with your development and helps you get out of bed and want to work for the club that is paying you.

"That was clearly not the case at Liverpool and why he never fulfilled his potential.

"With us he has got to a high level and that form has come about because of the relationship he has with me, the staff and the players.

"The lad enjoys coming in, he enjoys playing for us. He wants to achieve a lot in his life."

With the veteran Kevin Poole being released, Allardyce is keen to draft in two new goalkeepers to compete with Jussi Jaaskelainen next season.

"You have to consider the amount of games some of my players could have next season," said Big Sam. "It might be as many as 60 matches including internationals.

"If you had three goalkeepers and split it up, that is 20 games which is a full season for most people."
