First i 'll give my opinion to some of them:

Lippi: Always faithful to the italian style they made some different tactics on the attact during the matches sometimes decisives to win

Klinsmann: 1st job as a coacher?! Great work! I am impressed with the evolution of his team, he managed to create a strong team with very positive football that for me it reminds me the swedish football.

Scolari: He came to Portugal with a already fantastic team with full of fantasy football (3th on euro2000, the brazilians of Europe somenone said), but scolari (curiously brazilian) tranformed our team more defensive, closer to the italian style (Scolari is also italian, italian genes of course Smile), in my opinion Portugal started to play not so beautiful but with more efficacy, 2nd place on euro2004, 4th place on wc2006 and also wc2002 champion with brazil! Impressive!

Sven Goran Ericsson : He always made good substitutions and prepared a good tactic to his team, but the P.K. seems to be one of the weakest points of the english team.
I have to say that he also have demonstrated a big heart and big fair play, unlike Domenech and Van Basten (What a shame!!). I was specially disappointed with Van Basten such a good player like him!

In the end my choice goes to Klinsmann, because i never was a big fan of the german football but this time i have enjoyed it so much more.

Yeh, didn't like his moves at all. No way should he have kept a star like that on the bench all game.

1. Lippi : very good tactician especially in the semi final

2. Klinsmann : had the "balls" to take over the manschaft and did a really good job.

3. errrrrrr can't think of a third. I dislike Scolari, I dislike Domenech. No, really, no third.

LOL, almost true
Pauleta was the best player and scored more goals 2 years in a row (at least) in the french league (And He isnt french, just to Ribery LOL) is a defender...
Nuno Gomes (unluckily in bad shape) and Postiga are defenders as well...

Fortunately Portugal have a lot of good wingers! : )

This is a re-post with little update (i started a similar thread before the final).

I am Italian, but this is not the reason my favorite is Marcello Lippi.
I think he's been extraordinary throughout all WC preparation and final stage, mainly because he had to front a lot of unexpected events:

  1. In last years he built the team strategy on Totti, but he lost him a few months ago; he managed to rescue him with a continuous monitoring and relationship and, when the final stage in Germany started, he risked manting Totti in the 11 selection, even though he had not played in second part of the season.
He also had to front the injury of Nesta, maybe the best central defensive player with Cannavaro.

  2. At the end of the season in Italy started the famous judicial acts and Lippi was attacked for his previous relations with Juventus and also his own son was involved in the trial (as a manager of the GEA, eventally the most guilty company of players' agents); although Lippi and many players had to leave germany to appear before the judges, he mantained team united and far from polemics.

  3. One of his former player and friend, Pessotto, committed suicide a few days ago and is now in hospital; he let Zambrotta and some other players leave Germany for visiting the former team mate.

  4. Even if many players are top stars, he managed to avoid one of them to prevail above others and also controlled the discontent of the ones playing less (such as Del Piero). He made many changes from match to match and then:
    i) all Italian outfield players have played;
ii) ten different ita players have scored, a record in WC final stage.

  5. He's had the courage to change strategy many times, even putting players out of their natural role: his defensive wings Zambrotta and Grosso are special ones, cause both have the ability to go forward and score too (not only cross the ball); in semi-final vs Germany, after Camoranesi and Perrotta (attacking midfielders with some defensive role in the mid) were tired, he changed them and Italy played extra time with 4 attackers: Totti and Gilardino with Del Piero and Iaquinta playing as attacking wings: checkmate!!!
In final, when he realized it was time to defend 'cause French was getting stronger in 2nd half and his team appeared tired and unable to react, he had the courage to substitute Totti (a hero for many Italian fans, maybe the only man who could make a decisive move, and a PK shooter) and set up a defensive midfield.
He also choose Grosso as the 5th in penalty shootout (a place reserved to best attacking shooters) and his confidence was repaid.

Sorry for the long post and my english...
Bye all and compliments to our opponents.

Although I dislike Scolari and Raymond "la Science-fiction" Domenech, have to admit they did a good job in the end.

Still, I think Klinsmann is Deutschland 2006 best coach.

1) Lippi (he was a real shake for all italian classic tattics. I don't agree with who says Lippi was faithfull to the defensive style. His way of playing was aggressive and he had the gut to put 4 forwarder in the last minutes of Italy-Germany...4 forwarder in the same match! I think Trapattoni risked to have an heart attack if he was watching the match on tv...).

2) Domenech (he could be an assh***, he talks too much and when he does, half the time he made mistakes, but he is good. France surelly was not the team to beat in this world cup, and after the first part nobody believed in it, but he tooked it up to the final).

3) Klinsmann (unlucky against us Rolling Eyes . anyway he made a great work in german team).

Lippi:

He used all his players (showing that they were ALL part of the team).

He created a wonderful defensive model (to understand it, you must look at the defense with and without the ball).

He attacked most of the time - whoever thinks he was defensive probably doesn't understand much about football or hasn't seen the matches.

He used many different modules during the game, and was not one-player orientated.

He managed it without any real midfield wingers - he bravely used Zambrotta and Grosso on the wings and covered in defense by using a wider 3-player defense.

He had a scandal behind him - he came out of it.

He motivated his players, even when they weren't playing (never heard Inzaghi complain, for example, or Del Piero).

He was always modest - unlike some managers who would easily declare how much better they were.

He criticised his team (draw against USA), and warned them about their behaviour in public.

I think these reasons took him so far in the WC.

Lippi : a cheater who knows Zidane reactions because he was his coach in juventus. So if France was superior, destroy the match by diving and insult Zidane in order to play with 11 players against 10.

That's a great coach. Rolling Eyes

1st Domenech : he had to face the french medias who are against him since the beginning of the qualifying round, he had to put the old generation with the new generation for playing together. He had to face his refusal to bring Giuly, and Pires and the medias. He had to face the poor beginning of France in this Wc. And he had gone in the final, just an unlucky final.

2nde : Scolari, i don't like him because he always dispute the referees, but this man had not win a world cup and put Portugal in the final of euro 2004 for nothing, it's deserved. Portugal is the team which had control the France game the best, but they have not been dangerous.

3rd : Klinsman, because we had beat germany 3-0 in france and Italy have beaten them 4-1 just before the WC, Germany was always here in the great tournament, and even if i know it, i didn't think that germany can go far, but they have done it like in 2002, Klinsman has done his job very well.
