I had a bad feeling about this match, i see it again today and i see that Buffon order the referee to watch the video, it seems that he knew that video is now authorized like if they had planned the incident with Zidane.

Ok, for you all who still do not know what happened. During cup matches, FIFA has a special guy called a co-ordinator whoose job is to watch tv shootings in a place somewhere on the pitch. This person is connected to the 4th official through some device, wherein if he sees some reall important event going on, he is on duty to contact the 4th official who in turn advices the referee. This is what happened in Zidane's case. No linesman was involved, just the 4th official, the co=ordinator, and the referee who clearly pointed towards the 4th official when handing zidane his red card

Henry asked about the 4th referee on Eurosport : http://www.eurosport.fr/football/coupedumonde/2006/sport_sto924280.shtml confirms that the referee has seen nothing.
Everyone everywhere on French or Italian side (if ever one day they are honest ?) heard the 4th referee say to the center referee that he saw nothing ... And Henry at the end adds with much fairplay : "Since Switzerland I gave up looking for explanations about arbitrage", that says everything ... |

No not anymore. I thought that too. It's like they quietly introduced this new method. Beckenbauer also tried to ManUver his way around that topic on German TV. They clearly used TV recordings cause neither the ref nor this assistants on the field had seen the headbutt. |

well over here in England it was stated that no video footage was used in the Zidane sending off . The 4th official saw the incident with his own eyes and the referee was contacted by him and a red card was then shown to Zidane .
The trouble is if the sending off was deemed illegal due to video being used and the red card was erased it would not change a thing really as the footage of Zidane headbutting Matterazzi in his final match will never be forgotten and his image will always be slighty tarnished by that act . |

It is much better that zidane has been sent off, whatever the means employed by the ref. At least he has been punished. I can't imagine Italians reaction, if Zidane would have escaped this and France would have won... o mama mia ! Most of them are already bad winners, I can imagine how bad looser's they must be ! However I understand why fifa was so eager to declare that the 4th offiical saw it with his own eyes because if the video was used they are stuck between 2 very unconfortable positions. It is either illegal and the red card should be cancelled (unthinkable) or it creates a precedent of video refering which is very annoying for FIfa. |
