That will not happen, FIFA will never acknowledge if they made a mistake. They are not crazy, how could they make a replay ? When all players are on holiday or in pre-season ? next summer |

No replay, it's done now. I mean a Fiasco because of the disappointment of a lot of supporters and federations around the world. I think that FIFA will choose the road of peace and credibility ( ... which is not necessarily the road of the truth) |

for all Materazzi supporters, the hearing is probably nothing more than a publicity thing so FIFA could prove to the world that it's concerned over the matters, all parties got to save face. At the end, Materazzi will likely issue a public statement saying something like he should not have said it in the first place and he apologized to the public for what he did and how he respected ZZ and things like that. He won't get penalized officially by FIFA for sure, but how the public viewed him is another matter. If he's clever, he will have his doctor write up a report on how the headbutt caused serious non-obvious injury and he will lie in the hospital faking for a week. Then some people will start sympathizing him. Otherwise, it's a no-win battle for him to further deny this deny that.

all fifa will investigate is zidane-materazzi issue
the 4th official has seen the incident. so case closed. no replay.and anyway stop this [beep!]. materazzi insulted zidane and zidane reacted as a low-life. wouldthe french have liked to have won with a player responsible for such a violent act. probably yes. anyway talk as much as you want we won and deserved and as to the game..in spite of your domination you created 2 chances only in second half and extra time end of story |

I'll repeat what really worries me:
FIFA are investigating the issue - meaning that they are investigating both players. But, as Materazzi's agent pointed out, why was Totti personally investigated in Euro2004, whilst the provocations he received from Poulsen where left aside? The situation is very similar - a provocation and an indecent assault. I mean, are they treating Zidane differently compared to Totti? The same goes for Frings or whoever has been accused/convicted. If so, FIFA really have to get their rules straightened out. Could the French elements in FIFA's hierarchy be putting pressure on someone? I too believe nothing will happen to Materazzi in terms of disqualification - there are no rules against what he said (except moral ones). |

i will tell you why it is being treated differently to totti' s incident...
Because we Italians are NO CRYING bitches, we were all [beep!] off that totti fell into the trap, [beep!] off with Totti!!!!!!, he messed up and you can be darn sure it was all in program as they had a camera follow totti for all of his game. The French on the other hand and the muslim zz continue to insist that ZZ was provoked, there was clearly something said by materazzi before the head butt, but they had been EXCHANGING verbal rubbish a few minutes before the incident, it just so happens the muslim was a touchy git and lost it. There will be no face to face with zidane- materazzi as it is clear that zz is at fault. imagine how many cases they will havein future of this kind if they suspend materazzi for say 2 matches say and nothing happens to ZZ....clearly not going to happen. if everyone is so concerned about words on the field then i suggest fitting small microphones on their shirts. The truth is Italy has won their fourth world cup, let's all accept it and move on, and next time you watch italy play with the 4 stars on their shirts , show a little respect....whatever your opinions are for the love of the game, you must admit, to win four world cups is quite an achievement. |

I agree but I think the FIFA will still do something about Materazzi. Regarding the replay due to the 4th referee watching tv or not, it is just a legal problem and I think it will last long but the result will be that Italy is the WC winner because FIFA cannot disjudge herself. |

I'm not sure about that - what do you think FIFA have to fine/ban Materazzi - I can't really think of any rules, apart from the one against racism - but as already stated, there was no racism. It was just an insult that Zidane was particularly susceptible to. You can't convict someone for a law that doesn't exist. With reference to the replay - if the 4th official claims he saw the event himself (which he has already done) it's going to be hard to break that version down. Unless some real uncontradictable evidence can be brought in to prove that Cantalejo didn't see anything. But, in addition to whether he did or didn't see anything, one very important element remains: IT DID HAPPEN! The fact that the decision was right makes the route to the decision less important. |

We will know everything after the meeting on the 20th.
What I am sure is the French lawyer is goign to check all the TV video of the incident to prove the 4th referee watched the video and did not see it live. I would believe the 4th referee saw it directly and case closed but the legal proceeding can go on for long. To be honest I don't care Italy won it fair and square but the legal wrangle just delay the inevitable conclusion I think. |

I read this on the setanta news:
Materazzi is suspended for two games and fined 5000 Swiss francs for provoking the incident, but has been absolved of accusations that his aggravation was racist. and then about Zidane it was about 7500 Swiss francs and "The committee has taken note that he has declared his career is over and taken note of Zidane's pledge to do three days community service within Fifa's humanitarian activities." it's a shame an icon like Zidane should have to leave this way over loss of temper in a split second. I still can't believe the whole thing happened. But I must say if he were here in the US..the community service would be wearing an bright orange vest and picking up trash on Interstate 80 for 3 days....so i guess he's lucky that way. Is the overall thought that this will all blow over and become a fleeting memory and that Zidane will be remembered more for the pre-his last game of the WC contributions to football....or would that take a crystal ball to figure? |
