Barcelona are preparing to offer Ronaldinho a contract that will keep him at the club for the rest of his career and will see the Brazilian earn €130 million over ten seasons.
The huge deal is a bid to ward off any interest in the Catalan’s star player, but club president Joan Laporta is treading carefully because he does want the Brazilian to lose his zest.
Ronaldinho’s current deal runs until 2008, but with each season his buy-out clause devalues and Barca want to ensure that he is not snapped up by another club when he is at his peak.
At 25, the former PSG player still has his best years ahead of him and so Laporta has met with the player’s brother and agent to thrash out a deal that would put to rest any doubts over his future.
Barcelona want to offer him a new contract that runs until 2010 and then have an option that kicks in automatically, if there are no extenuating circumstances, to keep him for a further five season.
Laporta does not want to offer a straightforward ten-year deal because it could see Ronaldinho bceome complacent over his future.
