Grays Athletic have sprung a surprise by releasing teenage sensation Gary Hooper.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene last season, scoring eight goals in 16 starts from midfield, and was widely regarded as one of non-league's hottest properties.
The Essex side turned down a bid from Championship side Reading last season but, despite interest from Barnet and the likelihood of a transfer fee on the horizon, Grays have told Hooper he is now a free agent.
The teenager has had his contract terminated by mutual consent and is free to discuss terms with any prospective employers.
Manager Frank Gray will be looking for ways of replacing Hooper as the pre-season campaign hots up.
