Roeder sings brambles praises |

FA scout Glenn Roeder has revealed he has given England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson "a glowing report" about Newcastle defender Titus Bramble.
The 23-year-old has struggled since his £4.5m move to the Magpies in July 2002, but put together a run of near-faultless displays under Graeme Souness. Former Magpies centre-half Roeder was at St James' for last Sunday's 1-1 draw with champions Chelsea in his capacity as one of Eriksson's scouts, and he was hugely impressed by what he saw of the Ipswich-born stopper. "I first saw Bramble playing for Ipswich against Manchester United at Portman Road when he could have been no more than 17, and he doesn't seem to have found any level of consistency since then," he said. "Certainly on Sunday, he never put a foot wrong and I've sent a glowing report about him to Sven-Goran Eriksson." "Bramble is big, strong and powerful, but what I also like about him is that unlike a lot of central defenders, he can get the ball down and spray it around a bit. He is now an accomplished defender and I could hardly have been more impressed with him than I was on Sunday." Despite Eriksson having strong competition for the centre-half position, Roeder still believes Bramble has the potential to claim an England shirt and added: "England are very strong at the heart of their defence with Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Sol Campbell, Ledley King and now Zat Knight, but Titus Bramble can now start pushing himself for a place in the full squad." |
