For the 1st time in I don't know how many years.......

The BBC are to show 10 live championship games on terrestial TV next
season and also have a weekly highlights show of all the games and studio guests.

Will this now make you watch Championship football if you hadn't done so before?

As I've said before this league is the 4th biggest in Europe only behind the Premiership,La Liga and Bundesliga.

Now that Newcastle will be playing in this division I can see some big TV audiences depending what matches are shown.

I think it will be great and I will be watching for sure. Are they still doing Match of the Day as well for the Prem or is it just Championship football for the BBC now?

No need to worry anyone!....The BBC will still be doing MOTD as usual on Saturday with Gary Lineker and Sunday nights.

I'm not sure yet on which BBC channel they will screen the Championship on or who the presenters or studio guests will be......

Yes Lord Ian the Championship is the 4th biggest league in the world even above Serie A and Ligue 1......

If you read the hello Championship thread further down this section there is a load of info on that there.

Good to hear. It is va very competitive league and not always the case that the best relegated team always goes up. Even without Leeds in there, I will still tune in.

Can understand showing the WBA-Newcastle game and to a certain extent the Ipswich-Newcastle game, but the other two??? Look at some of the derbies in the Championship, some of the feircest in the country...Cardiff-Swansea, Sheffield derby, Derby-Forest..why not show them?

nice with the ipswich newcastle game live, ill be there at portman road. i hope its a good'un like the last 1 on tv for ipswich, good news-game of the season is on tv aswell.

It does look like they're concentrating on newcastle a little too much though, but we cant help that.

Im obviously glad that the Toon's opening fixture is live on the BBC, however I also agree with your point. I guess the Swansea-Cardiff game is a clash of the welsh, do they have BBC Wales? I guess so. As for the other derbies, the Derby-Forest one is tasty, not too sure bout the Sheffield derby. I just wanna see Millwall-West Ham again! LoL.

I think it will be along time until West Ham ever play against Millwall again Mangan!

The Hammers would have to be relegated and Millwall promoted to the Championship.

I'm looking forward to watching the opening game of the season on the BBC...Only 3 weeks to go!

It looks like Alan Shearer will be in the studio with Gary Lineker
when the BBC screen their first Championship match West Brom v Newcastle.

Commentators for the game will be Guy Mowbray and Mark Lawrenson.

Will be starting a match discussion topic for this game on Saturday as there is only week to go from tomorrow Exclamation

I think it is a shame that they are only showing ten games, why don't the BBC really go and spend a bit of cash and make a league their own!

Sky really undervalue lower league football and have the most wooden hosts and pundits I'd probably say as far down as D-list most of the time. BBC's coverage is actually quite good although not a big fan of Shearer but Hansen is always pretty insightful. Does anyone still watch MOTD any more? It is so easy to see highlights these days e.g. Internet, red button etc that is seems pointless.

Come BBC promote the Championship more, a fantastic league that more people should watch!!

I'd love it too Krakow if The BBC bought all the rights to screen The Championship

I'm not sure though if they would be allowed to do this with TV License payers money though.

So at the moment all they have is this joint deal with SKY allowing them to show 10 matches.

Did anybody see their highlights show on Saturday night?

If so what did you think?!

I saw the highlights show on iPlayer and I was fairly impressed.

The set seems far too complicated for what it actually is and the 'texts' part is just annoying, I don't care what idiots think to be honest. Ian Holloway was good and Steve Claridge was Ok so I will continue to watch I think.
