Lampard hits out at Hammers

Frank Lampard has hit out at former club West Ham, and revealed that he is still bitter about the way he was treated by the fans at Upton Park.

The England midfielder believes that he was an unpopular figure on the terraces because the fans thought he was only in the squad due to his family connections.

"Being Frank Lampard's son brought with it different rules to those which apply to every other player," he explains in his autobiography, serialised in The Sun.

"A section of the support believed I wasn't good enough for the starting line-up so I was put on the bench as some kind of favour.

"And they let me know this every time I moved to do a warm-up."

Lampard, also the nephew of manager at the time Harry Redknapp, was also disgusted that chairman Terence Brown even entertained the idea of nepotism.

"I felt suspicious about the people running the club and from that moment I'd never trust them again."

The worst moment of Lampard's West Ham career came when he broke his leg as an 18-year-old, and heard some cheers from his own supporters.

The abuse was so bad that he admits he did consider giving up on football altogether.

"I have tried not to think too much about what happened on March 15, 1997, but it's hard not to," he reflected.

"We were away at Aston Villa when I went to challenge for a ball and caught my studs in the turf. Pain shot through my leg and I knew straight away it was broken.

"As I was being carried off around the visitors' end at Villa Park I recall cheering and some applause. It made me feel sick to the stomach.

"It got to the stage when I thought about jacking in football altogether. I would rather work nine to five with my mates than take abuse from 30,000 people every other week."

Lampard has carved out a hugely successful career since switching to Chelsea in 2001, but his relationship with West Ham has still not picked up.

"Now I have won The Premiership with Chelsea and was runner-up to Ronaldinho as World Player of the Year it has become harder for the critics to handle," he said.

"I remember when Joe Cole first came to Chelsea he would turn away in disappointment if West Ham lost. I would smile.

"That's how deeply I felt. I wanted West Ham to lose. Now I don't even look for their results."

i love the westham fans they are so funny. Boo Lampard when he is 18-20 after he scored 14 goals in a season and then he leaves and you all hate him. if i was a West Ham fan and fellow supporters boo him i would find it a disgrace to the club. But maybe thats what the club is like. Keep blowing boys, just jealous so keep blowing the bubbles. Super super Frank

Frank Lampard Jnr is being an idiot his dad is such a respected figure at the club as well his uncle Arry,
The Hammers gave him his big break in the priemership and he should be gratefull!!i would be if i had such a gift an oppurtunity, just because Chelsea are the it club at the moment and he's earning the dosh its as if he thinks he has a right to slag our club off!?!?!not forgetting the year before we went down West Ham were higher in the league than the Abramocihless Chelsea!!!

hmmmm maybe??he's slightly over rated...i dont think he's the complete midfileder like Gerrard for instance....his Dad played Defence and was amazing....put Lamps jnr is a bit suspect!!Anyway dont think any player should slag off a club unless they have been harshly treated by the CLUB not FANS Becks used to Get stick from Hammers Fans as a Cockney Red but he's said he'd never rule them out in the future!!

Yeah i no what you mean, Lampard does come across a bit arrogant but the life he leads i think it would be hard not to. but i do agree, don't think it helps the abuse he gets when he comes back to upton. I think the best way to fight the abuse is to get a goal.

maybe i think alot of hammers fans think he ran away from the club especially when he joined Chelsea of all teams,if he did a Rio gone further awy then maybe it wouldn't have been so bad??i dont think he gave his move enough thought and it seemed to us fans as if he was thinking the club wasnt good enough for him?!?!?

I'm reading the book at the mo he said Terrane Brown said before Lamps signed a contract that Rio wasn't going to be sold. then he was sold, also there was Beef between Brown and Harry which upset Lampard and he does say if his Dad and Harry had stayed he would of stayed.
He also says Brown asked him to stay but he felt Westham had let his family down.
Lamps said that the money from selling Rio didn't do much to help Harry. Again it's only Lamps view but i suppose if you have family there then it might be hard for him.

lampard should show more respect to the club that made him, there is no need to speak out like that. it was only a small section of the hammers fans that jeer him.
im sure he is big enough and man enough to rise above it and let his football do the talking

He was a young lad playing his first full season and they boo him cause they don't think he was good enough. Westham is poorly run and Brown is a c**t
