Dundee - relegation effects beginning to show |
|
Dundee boss Jim Duffy admits he expects major cuts to his playing staff after his team were relegated yesterday.
Duffy said: "I don't know the full impact but there is a meeting with the directors planned for Sunday, and I had hoped it would be positive issues which would be decided but it obviously won't be now. I'm sure there will be cuts, whether that be staff, players or a combination, that's the horrible side of relegation - it affects everybody. "I know it's great drama but we don't always realise the real impact it has on people and there will be people who lose their jobs. There will be a lot of players, but staff as well, so it's a very severe aspect of relegation and it affects a lot of people who don't deserve it." The club has already had to cut its cloth after plunging into administration in November 2003, laying off players and backroom staff but with more job losses looming, Duffy refuses to blame the board. "I've nothing but respect for the directors who have pumped millions of their own money into the football club and can't continue to do that." One of the first decisions the directors will have to make is whether Duffy is the man to lead them through the period of rejuvenation. "From my point of view, I hope I'm still here," he said. "Come pre-season I want to be part of it and I think we have a good crop of young players who have had to learn the hard way but hopefully I'll be there to take them forward and I hope the supporters and the directors continue to show faith in what we are trying to do but it's up to the supporters and directors to decide." |
