Lee Wilkie's severance with Dundee is being dealt with by lawyers, with the defender and club haggling over the ownership of a car.

The vehicle was part of Wilkie's last signing agreement but the club argue that it should now be handed back.

Wilkie started training with Dundee United this week but Dundee intervened immediately to prevent the 26-year-old from dealing with their neighbours.

"I've left things in the hands of my solicitor," Wilkie told The Courier.

The former Scotland international is being allowed to leave Dens Park after refusing to accept a pay cut.

But, after Wilkie turned up at United, Dundee chief executive Dave MacKinnon told BBC Sport: "He is still a Dundee player and there's no way we would allow him to train elsewhere.

"He's been given a compromise agreement but appears to have jumped the gun.

"I just put it down to bad judgement on his behalf."

Wilkie is battling back to fitness after suffering three cruciate ligament injuries in recent years.

The defender broke down injured again during a First Division match against St Johnstone in April.

He was asked to take a drop in wages along with other high earners at Dens Park but decided his future would lie elsewhere.

Wilkie hopes to join defenders Franck Matingou, from Congo, and Abderrahmane Mssassi, from Morocco on trial at Tannadice.

Congo international Matingou had been with French outfit Bastia since joining from Martigues in 1998 and the 26-year-old made 19 appearances last season.

Mssassi is a 21-year-old previously with Maghreb Fes in his homeland and was most recently on trial with Hibernian.
