Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson is expected to name Gordon Chisholm as fulltime manager today.

The Daily Record says Thompson felt it was vital to offer Ian McCall's former right-hand man the job on a full-time basis before Saturday's Scottish Cup Final with Celtic.

The chairman received more than 50 applications and CVs from other bosses. But Chisholm has done everything required of him since McCall's sacking in March.

In his 10 games in charge, Chisholm has won five and went on a six-match unbeaten run.

He was further boosted with the news skipper Paul Ritchie may recover from his groin injury in time to face Celtic.

Chisholm said: "Paul is not ruling himself out and he's working as hard as he can to get fit enough to play.

"All credit to him because that's the sort of spirit I want in my players."
