Toure makes Monaco move |
|
Monaco have snapped up Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure.
Toure, who is the younger brother of Arsenal defender Kolo, impressed at the World Cup with Ivory Coast. A number of clubs have been chasing the Olympiakos midfielder, but Monaco have won the race for his signature. Monaco are thought to have paid €4.5 million (£3 million) to land the powerful midfielder. Meanwhile, Monaco have revealed that Vassilios Zikos has left The Principality to return to Greece. The 32-year-old has moved back to former club AEK Athens on a free transfer. |

Toure is a strange case. He was never happy at Olympiakos and his actions showed that he wanted out. He is very good friends with his manager (Dmitri Sellouk) so when Olympiakos had problems with Sellouk Toure always took the manager's side and refused to do what the team told him. Things got really tense right after Copa Africa when Toure took longer than expected to return making up excused along the way. So basically Monaco have got their work cut up for them, especially considering that Toure was hoping for a transfer to the EPL (his brother was trying to pave the way for him at Arsenal), Spain or of it had to be France he wanted to end up with Lyon.
As for Zikos, he's a decent defender and i'm surprised Monaco don't even want him as a reserve. He'll be a huge help to AEK i think. |
