Sevilla added their name to the bottom of the Uefa Cup in 2006

A strong contingent of British clubs go into the draw for the first round of the Uefa Cup on Friday at 1200 BST.

Blackburn, Tottenham, West Ham and Rangers are automatic qualifiers while Hearts also go in after their Champions League loss to AEK Athens.

Newcastle and Derry City will join them after coming through their final qualifying matches on Thursday, but Llanelli, Drogheda and Gretna are out.

The first-round matches are played over two legs on 14 and 28 September.

A total of 40 teams will then advance to the group stages, where pools of five teams vie to reach the knockout stages.

The winner, runner-up and third-placed team from each group advance to the last 32 where they are joined by eight clubs knocked out of the Champions League.

The competition will culminate in the final at Hampden Park 16 May.

Spanish side Sevilla are in the first-round draw and will aim to defend the title they won at the expense of Middlesbrough last year.

Schalke, semi-finalists in 2006, are also back in the hunt along with fellow German club Bayer Leverkusen, winners in 1988.

Tougth job for the portuguese teams, all bottom seeded...

Braga, Vitoria Setubal and Nacional are in the the verge of facing a far bigger team.

We will talk in an hour... Wink

Tottenham vs Slavia Prague! Shocked

Good game in prespective!!!

About the Portuguese:

Sp. Braga - Chievo Verona (Ita)
Vit. Setubal - Heerenveen (Hol)
Rapid Bucareste (Rom) - Nacional da Madeira

Not the best of the draws, but it won't be a scandle if all three go through, although it would be always surprising! Braga has a good squad, but has on the other side one of the strongest teams of this Uefa Cup.

Derry got an ok draw, Paris SG will obviously go into it as favourites but I think derry could surprise them. I would love to see them in the group stages and im trying to get tickets for the home game!
Unlucky Drogheda last night, beaten 11-10 on penalties but it deffinitely shows that our league is hugely improving over the last few years!

What i mean is it should be a good game to see! I think Derry could surprise them though, they are actually a good team and if PSG underestimate them then Derry could surprise them. I still expect PSG to win but wouldnt be too surprised if Derry pulled off a shock. Im trying to get tickts too, i might see you at the game!
