Torres set to sign new Atletico Madrid deal

Fernando Torres will sign a new contract extension with Atletico Madrid this week.

Atletico are planning a media conference on Thursday to announce that Torres has signed a deal which will keep him at the club until 2009. The new contract will also see his buyout clause drop from £40 million to £25 million.

Torres resisted a move to Manchester United immediately after the World Cup to pledge his future to the Vicente Calderon.

I definately think this is a make or break season for Atletico in terms of keeping Torres longer, if they do well in the league and qualify for the CL, then he might consider staying.

In my opinion Atletico has just fixed the fee for his tranfer. An extension for one year is nonsense, he wants to leave but is still loyal to his club. I appreciate him

He's leaving next year then for £25 million, providing he doesn't get a long-term injury or suffers an enormous drop in form.
