Hodgson's job is safe |
|
Darlington manager David Hodgson is more than happy his job is safe.
Rumours were rife in the North East that the big-spending Quakers were ready to axe Hodgson after a less than satisfactory start to the League Two season. However, following a board meeting Hodgson has been told that the club have no intention of removing him. "I have spoken to the chairman and the directors and they say there was never any intention that I was to be sacked," said Hodgson. "They did ask why we could not play better against Torquay, but that was not too untoward as I had asked the same question of the players myself. "The chairman categorically stated that there was never any intention of me going - that is exactly what he said to me. "Some people will be happy about that, some people will be unhappy but right now David Hodgson is happy so I don't really give a damn what anybody else thinks. "But if we win promotion, everybody will be happy. "What has gone on here is wrong. I've still got my dream of promotion in my hand and if that is taken away then I'll never fulfil it." However, chairman George Houghton did confirm that he had acted to sort out the relationship between Hodgson and chief executive Jon Sotnick. "I have personally intervened to resolve matters between the manager and the chief executive following a series of damaging press reports," Houghton said. "I have supported both men and emphasised the positive changes they have each brought to DFC. The team is now stronger than ever and has a fighting spirit that has every chance of securing promotion during this season's campaign. "Now is the time for internal unity and cohesion and both men at the top of the club have pledged to me they will work towards future success. "David Hodgson continues to support my investment programme and the result has been a strengthened squad and some exciting performances on the pitch. "Jon Sotnick, who is a passionate fan, has also understood the importance of his position as the key representative of the club in the league and in the community. "I am convinced that my meetings with both men today have restored balance and harmony to my management team." |
