1st round 15.08.2009.
HAJDUK - VOJVODINA
ČUKARIČKI STANKOM - HABITPHARM JAVOR
PARTIZAN - BORAC
BSK - MLADI RADNIK
SPARTAK ZLAT. VODA - OFK BEOGRAD
JAGODINA - CRVENA ZVEZDA
RAD - SMEDEREVO
NAPREDAK - METALAC

Last year:
1 Partizan 80
2 Vojvodina 61
3 Crvena zvezda 59
...
12 Banat 31
So,last year we had 12 teams in the Superleague, now we have 16...

Partizan still have the strongest team in Serbia,so we have an excellente chance to win 3 titles in a row..Vojvodina with the quality deserves 2nd place, they signed Alin Stoica,Romanian representation player and close to sign Kosta, former player of Porto and some other clubs..Red Star is in big financial problems, they signed many limited players, but they are always dangerous.

Other teams dont have such quality, and probably half of the teams will be fighting for staying in the 1st division.

Other thing is the very good results our teams in the qualifications for european competitions.Partizan won in Wales 4:0,Red Star in the Slovenia, against Rudar 1:0,and Sevojno(team from our 2nd division, played in the cup final)played 0:0 with Kaunas.

Thanks Partizan for starting this topic and the post explaining about Serbian football.

Red Star didn't do very well last season if they only finished the season in the 3rd place with 61 points!

Could you explain to us a little more about the other clubs in Serbia please?

Like in which city do they play and where in your country for example in the North or South etc...Cheers!

Are you happy that the 1st division will now be bigger and have 16 clubs now instead of 12 next season?

Well,i am happier now with bigger league, because many clubs from smaller places in Serbia get the chance to participate in 1st Division..Last few years we had a situation that 7-8 of 12 clubs were from Belgrade..that wasn't good for Serbian football. Now we had many exciting away matches and also the big chance that these cities, big cities for our conditions, begin to produce their own players and on that way, these clubs begin to grow

On the North of the country, there is Subotica and Spartak Zlatibor water FC.Subotica is 4th or 5th biggest town in Serbia.
Vojvodina is from Novi Sad(New Sad),second biggest city in country.Vojvodina is also the name of the region, big region who includes Panonian Plain and it is also self-governed region,multinational...In Vojvodina(region)there is another one club,Hajduk from Kula, small town.

Partizan,Red Star,Cukaricki Stankom,Rad and OFK Belgrade are teams from Belgrade, the capital.First two are biggest in the whole state, others are just regular.OFK Belgrade is the team with big tradition, they produced Branislav Ivanovic,Slobodan Rajkovic(Chelsea player on the loan at Twente),Nemanja Ignjovski(big hope of our football, signed this summer for Munchen 1860,he is 18 years old),Dusko Tosic,Marko Basa and many other players.Last few years they have relayed on young players from their academy, and that caused bad results in last season, where are they in the last game avoid relegation.
Rad is a similar club, but with less success in history.Cukaricki is the least successfull club in the Belgrade(from 1st division),last year they reached 6th position that is their biggest result in history.Their coach was Dragoslav Stepanovic,ex-coach of Frankfurt Eintracht, but now he has moved to Vojvodina.

Second part i will continue later...

Thanks Partizan for the 1st part and it was very well writen mate.

I knew a little bit before about Red Star and Partizan but will learn more about the other clubs now.

I agree with you that having 8 clubs from Belgrade out of 12 in the 1st Division was not good for Serbian football.

Now that the league is bigger more people from around the country can start to support their local team.

For me is pleasure to write here, and to see that there is people around world who is interested in our championship...So Im continuing.. Smile

Not far away from Belgrade is Smederevo, town that was capital of Serbia in 14th century, before the Turkish came...They have Smederevo FC,who won 2nd Division last year. One of our most successfull clubs in last 15-20 years, only last season they were in 2nd Division.Away games in Smederevo has been for years one of the hardest exams for top teams. They also have one of the strongest sponsorships, with USS(US Steel),they werw constant participants of UEFA Cup.

Very close to Belgrade is town Borca and its club BSK.They are new in 1st Division and I don't know much about them,honestly...

In the middle of Serbia are towns Pozarevac and Gornji Milanovac, these aren't big towns, but they get two first Division teams in last season,Mladi Radnik(Young Worker in translation)from Pozarevac and Metalac from Gornji Milanovac. This year they'll be one of the candidates for relegation.

Jagodina is the club from samename's city.As the city but also as the club Jagodina is constantly growing, one of most influence Serbian politicans is from that city,a lot of money goes into that city and to the FC.That growing has begun 2 years ago, when they reach 1st division, and this season surely they will try to reach Europa places.

In the heart of our country lies Cacak(big city for us) and their 1st Division team Borac(Fighter Very Happy ).They are one of our stabilest clubs in last 5 years, last year they had very successfull road in Europe, eliminated from Ajax(1:3 and 0:3 i think),but before that they eliminated Lokomotiva Sofia and one more club(i don't remember).

Very close to them are Napredak Krusevac,Krusevac was our long term capital in the Middle Age,so that is one of the most historical cities in Serbia, city with long and famous history. They've also had Napredak FC,club who has given many players to Partizan or Red Star. But as a club are reaching very small success and progress during last years...

And for the end,in the West Serbia, close to our famous mountains Tara and Zlatibor(very nice places on the 1600metres high,if you would wanted to visit some day Smile ),in the very small place Ivanjica,Javor Hapitpharm fighting their battles very brave, and last year they reached 4th position, that is their very best success in the history.Very sympathic club, not big names, but good squad with coach Radovan Curcic, one of our best young coaches.

That's it,i will continue to post every interesting news and results..

I do try to follow the Serbian League occasionally.

I don't have great knowledge of the individual players but I watch the odd game.

Great posts Partizan, keep it up.

I have decided that my favourite team in Serbia will be Borac as I like the name fighter!

If there are any other fans of Serbian football that would like to join in this topic your most welcome.

Partizan will be posting the results and table every week and we will find some youtube goals to show also.

So if you support a club in Serbia why not join our forum and become a member and join in the discussion?

Go Borac!

Any more news Partizan on my new favourite Serbian team Borac (the fighters!)

Do they have any good players and what is the expectations for them next season?

Borac sign Davidov and Kostic, two very good players with whom Borac will get much on quality.

But best player has left to Red Star, this summer,Darko Lazovic. He's also very young and he will probably have very nice career abroad. But when he signed for Red Star... Very Happy Rolling Eyes

And one nice news for you,Borac beat Javor Habitpharm(4th in last season) 1-0 in friendly match...

The expectations are relative...First 3 places is reserved for Partizan,Vojvodina and Red Star. Then comes teams like OFK Beograd,Borac,Hajduk...last year Javor had great results, but now few key players has gone.I preddict 4th-5th place for Borac, and that would be great result for them.Best league position,Borac had in 2007/08 season, finished 4th.Took UEFA Cup place and had very successful run-defeated Dacia from Moldova 4-2 on aggregate in first and Lokomotiva Sofia 2-1 in second qualifying round. Then came matches against Ajax, which is the biggest in club history. In Serbia was 1-4 and in Amsterdam 0-2 for Ajax.

Also,i will mention you that you have only one foreign player in squad, brasilian William Alves.

Thanks Partizan for the Borac information

I'm very sad to see that we have sold our best player to Red Star.

If we manage to qualify next season for The Europa League I'll be happy.

But Red Star,Partizan and Vojvodina need to watch out....Borac are coming!

Some news from Serbia

Napredak Krusevac signed 3 players:CB Damjanovic from Kom(Montenegro), Macedonia U21 player Stojkov who plays LM and one striker from Gana-Jao or Yao I'm not sure...Some good signins and with the fact that their best player Predrag Pavlovic stay in club,Napredak surely can reach some mid-table position...

Also,Spartak bought lots of new players, but only Vidak Bratic has "football name" in Serbia. He should be very, very good signing for them,he playes CB and with him behind,Spartak can avoid relegation.

I'm glad to see such interest from other people all around the Europe for Serbian football... as you already know my neighbour from hell (partizan fc) Very Happy tell you a lot about our league and now I am here also to help him to introduce Serbian football... I'm from Pozarevac, that small city that now have a team in Super league, Mladi Radnik... but I am also a big Red Star fan and I always travell with my team to support them... Our bigest rival is Partizan and trust me, you must see one of the derby games between this two clubs...
Partizan maybe have the strongest squad ever and everyone belived that they gonna pass into Champions League but they eliminated by APOEL 1:0 (0:2) from Cyprus (last season they eliminated Red Star) and they now play in last round for UEFA Europe League against Zilina from Slovakia.
Red Star played the most exciting mach that I have ever seen (last time against Bayern Munich 1991. in semi-final of Champions League)... they played against Dinamo Tbilisi (former Cup winners winner) not strong team but Red Star lose first match in Tbilisi 2:0, and in Belgrade Dinamo lead twice 0:1 and 1:2 but Red Star has been able to reduce their lead and win whit 5:2 in a last minute goal. Tremendous match. Shocked Shocked Shocked We play against Slavia Praha in last round of qualifications...
Vojvodina has 1:1 from first match against Austria Wien and in second match they lead twice but Austria finaly go through with 4:2 win.
Sevojno didn't have chance against Lille and they lose 2:0 at home and in France but they didn't embarasse themselfs... (they play in second division)...
That is all from me now... see ya... Wink
