He is still going strong with Benfica BG
but not scoring as many goals as used to.

He was a great player for Portugal....75 caps 26 goals!

Benfica is my favourite team here. I hope they can keep up with Porto untill the end of the season for once. The last few years they were close to winning it, but in the end they always end up with nothing.

That is a strong team but I don't think you will win it this year.

This topic should get busier when the league kicks off on the 16th August so stick around.

Benfica 2x2 Sion
Benfica 2x0 Shakhtar
Benfica 2x0 Athl.Bilbau
Benfica 2x1 Olhanense
Benfica 1-2 Atlético de Madrid ( But we play very well )
Benfica 4-0 Portsmouth

Di Maria, Saviola, Aimar and David Luiz are amazing! MAGIC!

Oscar Cardozo scores seven goals in pre season. And more than fourty goals in two sesons for Benfica. Is the best Striker of the World!

Quite an impressive midfield and forward line, I know nothing about the defence other that Luisao but hopefully this season will be closer than the last few years with Porto running away with the league every year

Nuno Gomes is "THE CAPTAIN", but he is old and his place is in the bank of alternates. In my opinion the Nuno Gomes is worse than the other forwards (Saviola, Weldon, Keirrison, and the magic MANTORRAS)

Probably, the line up for Porto is:

4x3x3

---------------Helton-----------

Fucile--Bruno Alves---Rolando---Álvaro Pereira

--------------Fernando--------------

--------Raúl Meireles------ Cristian Rodriguez

--- Mariano Gonzalez------------------------Hulk
------------------Varela-----------

Sporting CP: 4x4x2 Diamond

---------------Rui Patrício----------

Abel------Polga---Carriço--------Caneira

----------------Miguel Veloso----------

-------João Moutinho-----------Vukcevic---------------

----------------Matias Fernandez---

-----------Caicedo----Liedson---

You met Pedro MANTORRAS? He is suplent, sometines her name isn't present in call. But when he play, he scores a goal, he make to vibrate the Stadium! He is the bearer of the mystical of Benfica! In year 2000, he was a promesse, but, one day, he injuries and he was stopped several times ( two, three years ).

In Benfica we have great quality players, like David Luiz and Di Maria.

David Luiz ( NEXT MALDINI ):

He is central defense, but last year the defense played left defense.

Dí Maria ( Genious ) :

Hi Everybody!

Yesterday I went to the Luz Stadium see the game between Benfica (my favourite team ) and AC Milan.

It was a friendly match in order to present the Benfica team to its supporters and to give a tribute to Eusebio da Silva Ferreira, one of the best strikers who have ever played in the world.

The final result was 1-1 but Benfica won the Cup by penalty kicks.

In pre-season, the final results of the friendly matches are not very important. What is really important is the perfomance of the players of my team.

At first, I would like to inform that Quim, Benfica goalkeeper, defended four shoots of penalty kicks (Ronaldinho, Thiago Silva, Zambrotta e Antonini). It was really unbelievable!

I think that Benfica has a team that can play a good football and return to the excellent performances in our league and in Europe (Benfica is playing Uefa play-offs).
It is true that Benfica have very young players with a big potential to be fantastic players in future (David Luiz, Sidnei, Miguel Victor, Di Maria, Coentrão, Ramires, Rubem Amorim, Urreta and Shaffer ). However, if these players don't work hard in Benfica and don't show us them true value, nobody will reminder of them in the future.

The most of supporters have faith in three players to make very goals : Cardozo, Saviola and Aimar.
Sincerely, I prefer bet in just one player to score goals: Cardozo.
Cardozo is a brilliant player who has been score around 20 goal per season. His left foot is letal and his power of head ball is very strong.
I think that next season he will play in one club of Premier League.

In my opinion, Saviola has been doing good performances in pre season. However, Saviola doesn't have been playing in last two seasons regularly. So, it isn't good for a player who will begin to play one and two games per week.

Aimar have a enormous talent. He is a magic with a ball.
Unfortunately, is a player who suffers injury easily...

Nuno Gomes is the captain of Benfica. Unfortunately, in pre season, arrive many players to the team for his position (Saviola, Weldon and Keirrison). However, I think that he will have opportunity to play some games and to show his talent.
Unfortunately, some supporters don't like him very much. They say that he don't score many goals.
I appreciate football qualities of Nuno Gomes and his engage. He is a very good player and is a real captain. He is the player who every players listen when there is something wrong.

So, my friends time will tell.

Come on Benfica!

See you soon!

Coluna

p.s. - If somebody have any question about Benfica (information about players, tactics, team, formation, etc) that would like get a reply, please let me know!
Wink

Hello!

Stan Kroenke's moustache, it is difficult to choose just one best player of Benfica.

So, I decided choose two players. Cardozo and Maxi Pereira.

Cardozo, as I wrote in last post, is a wonderful striker. He is Paraguayan and is 26 years old.

Maxi Pereira is a right defender. He isn’t a player as known like Cardozo but If Benfica have good performances in Uefa League, Maxi Pereira will be recognized by media. He do good exhibitions. Unfortunately, at the moment he is injured.
He is Uruguayan and is 25 years old. He isn’t very height but he has a good tackle, a good run and he loves do attack actions. This player has an impressing engage in all games.

At this moment, I am sure that these two players can play regularly doing excellent performances during all season.

In my opinion, the worst player in Benfica is Balboa.
He is Spanish and he is 24 years old. He came in the beginning of last season from Real Madrid. Benfica paid 4Millions of Euros for him.
This player did not play regularly last two seasons, before he has arrived to Benfica (like Saviola).
So, when Balboa began play in Benfica, he had problems of adaptation. During last season he played just 3 games. It is very bad.
Sincerely, I don’t know If Balboa has some talent. Last season he played very little. Maybe will be good for him play in a club with a dimension smaller than Benfica.

Stan Kroenke's moustache, do you see the Portuguese League usually? In your opinion, what is the best player who are playing in Portuguese League?

See you soon!

Come on Benfica!

Thanks for that response Coluna.

I do try to watch the Portuguese liga on a regular basis.

One of the best players I have seen recently is Liedson. As I am sure you already know, he plays for Sporting CP and has a prolific goal scoring record, I think he has scored around 100 goals in 168 games which is impressive.

He has a great touch and an excellent eye for goal, but he is an aging footballer and wouldn't be able to cope with the pace of a greater league.

Another great footballer is Nene, but I believe he left last year for an Italian team.

If anybody was wondering why Estrella Amadora were relegated last
season despite finishing above the drop zone it was because of financial problems.

my thoughts on the new campaign

Porto

The Northern heavyweights have lost 3 of their best players in the summer in Lisandro Lopez,Lucho Gonzalez and Cissokho.
Manager Jesualdo Ferreira has brought in Argentine play maker Fernando Belluschi and Columbian striker Radomel Falaco.

They have won the title 4 times in a row now and will be the team to beat again this season.

Sporting Lisbon

The good news for manager Paulo Bento is that their 2 star players Moutinho and Velooso have remained at the club.
The Lisbon side haven't had much money to spend on new players but have signed the highly rated Matias Fernandez.

I think this season The Lions will never have a better chance to win the title than this one .

Benfica

Expectations are always high at the Estadio de Luz and new manager Jorge Jesus will have a big job to keep fans happy.
Argentine striker Javier Saviola has joined plus Brazilian Ramires from Cruzeiro to add to the large S.American contingent

The Eagles have only won the title once in the last 15 years and its about tine that was changed.

Fourth Place

I think Sporting Braga will be the team to look at for this season and will take the honours for finishing in that 4th place.
