PSV Eindhoven boss Ronald Koeman accepted a point from their opening UEFA Champions League game against Liverpool.

The Dutch champions hit the post early on through Arouna Kone, but substitute Steven Gerrard also hit the woodwork two minutes from the end.

Koeman said that he fully accepted the point and was happy to draw with five-time European champions Liverpool.

"At the end I was happy with the result," said Koeman.

"Mainly because we could well have conceded a goal in the final minutes with Gerrard's shot.

"However we did have the better chances even if it wasn't easy against a team as well organised as Liverpool and who put eight players behind the ball.

"It was difficult against two blocks of four players. You have to be very strong in attack.

"We earned the point and that was probably the best we could hope for."

Koeman admitted that he was shocked when he saw the amount of changes Liverpool had made to their starting line-up, while insisting that his own side could only get better.

"When I saw their team sheet I was shocked. No Gerrard, no Alonso, no Hyypia, no Crouch.

"We have made many changes during the summer and it takes time for new players to adapt, so to get a result like this is encouraging for us.

"But we can get better. I did not use Patrick Kluivert because he is not fully fit yet and it was a very high level to ask him to come into. But he will play on Sunday here against Feyenoord.

"But drawing this one means that we will probably now have to win an away game at either Galatasaray or Bordeaux, those two sides drew their match 0-0 as well so the group is very tight."
