ok it is the end of year and the top 8 women players in the world will go one on one with each other for the prestigious Sony Ericksson Championship in Madrid . The draw is below

YELLOW GROUP
1. Amélie Mauresmo (FRA)
3. Justine Henin-Hardenne (BEL)
5. Nadia Petrova (RUS)
8. Martina Hingis (SUI)

RED GROUP
2. Maria Sharapova (RUS)
4. Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS)
6. Kim Clijsters (BEL)
7. Elena Dementieva (RUS)

i really hope either Martina Hingis or Kim Clijsters can win this , Amelie Mauresmo is the defending champion and will be hoping to remain No 1 in the World Rankings , both Maria Sharapova and Justine Henin-Hardine have a chance to dethrone her though and claim the No 1 ranking for themselves , so who is going to win and who is going to end as No 1 this year .....

The Year-End World Championships is what I'm gonna watch Cool
I don't have a real favourite but if Kuznetsova, Dementieva, Mauresmo or Henin win, it'll be fine.
Anyone but Hingis or ShutUpOva please Razz

i watched the first two matches last night , Sharapova beat Dementieva 6-2 6-4 ...far too many double faults by Dementieva gave Sharapova an easy time really , she did fight back in the second set but a bit too late .

Martina Hingis tried her best against Justine Henin-Hardine and pinched the second set on a tie-break , but it was easy for Henin-Hardene in the end , she was a bit too strong for the Swiss Miss winning 6-2 6-7 6-1

There were also a few bad decisions by the officials too , tv replays showing several calls judging the ball out were actually in and several calls made judging the ball in were actually out , still the players never used the new challenge option so they went unoticed .

Double faults have always been a problem for Dementieva, her 1st serve is pathetic.
It's a real shame cos her technique is excellent and she's very fit too - runs to every ball.

Can't say I am sorry for Hingis, never liked the spoilt prat and I like JHH a lot Twisted Evil
Come on Juju!! Cool

in tiddlywinks Ashliano...... Smile , Mauresmo lost to Petrova 6-2 6-2 , an easy win for the Russian and Mauresmo needs to improve dramatically if she wants to have any chance of going any further in this event ..

Oh i agree Agent Smith on Dementieva , some of her passing shots were breathtaking but her serve let her down badly ... and yes she is also fit ... Wink

Don't forget she's been injured a lot recently.
It would be a shame if she didn't go far in this tournament
- she's the defending Champion after all and World's No.1

yeah true , her shoulder i think has been the problem . She needs to win it i think and for Henin-Hardine to not go through and Sharapova to not make the final if she wants to remain at No1 in the rankings ....almost impossible to happen i reckon .

i managed to catch the Sharapova v Clijsters match last night and it was a bit more competitive than the Sharapova v Dementieva match was . Still the result was never really in doubt as Clijsters had no answer to Sharapovas brutal power and her ability to return some of Clijsters best shots ..winning 6-4 6-4 . Clijsters did not really play at her best though and made far too many unforced errors to really give her a chance of beating the World No 2, I agreed with co-commentator Sam Smith that Kim Clijsters at her best would beat Maria Sharapova as i think she has a better game overall at the moment , she did play some wonderful shots against Sharapova but they were few and far between last night .

Martina Hingis kept alive her hopes of going through to the last four with a 6-4 3-6 6-3 win against Nadia Petrova , perhaps surprisingly considering how well Petrova played in her previous match against Mauresmo . The defeat also means that Amelia Mauresmo will lose the No 1 spot in the World Rankings on Monday , Justine Henin-Hardene will be guaranteed the No 1 spot if she makes the final , Sharapova can gain the No 1 ranking only if she wins the Championship and Henin-Hardine does not make the final .

I managed to sit through Screecher's match last nite , and I gotta agree with ya Conner Clijsters on top form would of beaten Sharapova , a pity really it's only her second tournament back. I hope the lines people get it together , a load of mistakes last nite.

I think it's gonna be Henin-Hardenne v Sharapova in the final

Come on Juju! Very Happy

I was just watching Mauresmo v Hingis match.
What a transformation! After a poor 1st set which Mauresmo lost 3-6
she changed her game completelly in the 2nd and 3rd sets and won the match 3-6 6-1 6-4 Shocked
That's what great champions do - when something's not working, you've got to change your game Cool
Hingis improved a bit again at the end of 3rd set but it was too late Cool Well done Mo!

She's not a great Chapmion imo, she's so unstable closing games out, can totally lose focus and have a melt down, shes a good player but she'll never be a great champion or a legend.
She's never even looked strong as World Number One - hasnt dominated like previous number ones

OK, she's not Steffi Graf, but she's a defending champion
and she won 2 Grand Slam titles this year
plus a few other tournaments so I think she's been a great champion this season Razz
