Kuranyi makes Schalke switch |
|
Schalke have signed German international striker Kevin Kuranyi from Stuttgart.
The 23-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Gelsenkirchen club. The fee has yet to be disclosed, but reports in Germany suggest it is in the region of £4.7million. "He is a player that will fit in well at Schalke," said sporting director Andreas Muller. "He works hard for 90 minutes for the team." General manager Rudi Assauer added: "It is no secret that we tried to bring him to Schalke last year. "At the time, we understood he wanted to stay at Stuttgart. "He will substantially reinforce the squad." Kuranyi is Schalke's third signing this summer, after they also captured Fabian Ernst from Werder Bremen and Freiburg's Zlatan Bajramovic. Kuranyi had a contract at Stuttgart until 2008, but it contained a clause which allowed him to speak to interested parties should they offer a particular amount. The Brazilian-born star told Bild am Sonntag: "No-one at Stuttgart can be angry with me. The club is getting more money from the transfer than it paid me in wages in all the years I was there. "It's the biggest transfer in the club's history." |
