I Started with a misplaced pass from the team I was coaching to an opposition defender , then have the attackers(on the team you are coaching) close down the defender with the ball. Its all about Pressure, Support and Communication.

Puyol, whoever your coach educator (tutor) was for the Level 2 course you did failed in getting an important coaching point over to you. Defending from the front is a DEFENDING topic so you should begin with the GK ( in this case, the opponents goalkeepr). (Assuming this is a Level 2 SSG of 6 v 6 in a Gk 2-1-2 formation) The true start position is either a weak shot from a midfield player on the team you are coaching, to the opponents GK OR a back pass form the opponents midfield player to his own GK. The FIRST Key Factor here is the GK!. The strikers move as the ball moves to prevent the GK from clearing long who is then forced to roll the ball to either of the backs. Having done that, the nearest striker gets ready to move to the FB who gets the ball. His job is to position so as to prevent the back from playing down the wing. He does so by moving "Into Line then Down the Line" The OTHER striker positions to stop the back with the ball from playing square to the other full back. This means that the back with the ball has only 3 alternatives. 1. Pass back to the GK 2. Take the challenger on by dribbling 3. Play to the midfield player If 1. then the sequence of movement is repeated. If 2. then the striker must force him to play predictably by 'showing him inside' towards traffic of players If 3 then the midfield player of the team you are coaching moves up rapidly to prevent him turening with the ball and forcing him to play back. The 2 backs on the team you are coaching move forward to shut down any possible space for the team with the ball to play into. |

Buckard - give us something to work with!!!!
we can't pass the assessment for you, what have you got so far, what have you planned? what key factors, area set out, equipment needs do you have? Then we may be able to help you, give extra hints to what you already know. The next time you run a session for your own team, do you want us to plan that as well? Or maybe just give some help? Show us what you've got so far |

Whats the best advice you can give a forward to do this. Because if you ask your forwards to pressure the GK then 99% of the time the GK will go long, however if you ask your forwards to hang back and give the defending team space, there is also a good chance this long option will still happen (depending on how aware the defending FB's are). Is there a better option on how to ensure the opposition GK will play wide and deep to his FB's?? Any ideas?? |

I have this topic, and my coach educator is John Beck ex Cambridge Utd, Lincoln and Preston. The first coaching point (without looking at my folder) was for the first striker and that was to chase in and check the defender. The last coaching point is with your keeper, and that is basically a sweeper keeper. This is my second time on Level 2 having not had the committment 4 years ago. I like John Becks philosophy of KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid, and I am optimistic of passing in May.
Hev, if you still are reading this topic I am willing to share ideas with you? |

your closer defender needs to make a curved run to close down the ball and to stop it being played forward. You then need the rest of your team to cover round and black the way of playing the ball forward, the aim is to push the player back to his own goal or to get so close that the player has to look at the ball rather than being able to look up for somewhere to pass to
