Just a week after landing Frank Farina as its new coach, Queensland Roar has pulled off another coup landing striker Damian Mori for the rest of the season.

Having already completed stints at Adelaide and Central Coast this year, the Hyundai A-League journeyman is out to prove that he still has what it takes to compete at the top level.

"Damian will be a new face in the squad and despite his 36 years he's still a very good player indeed," Farina said.

"This signing will give the rest of the boys a boost at a time when we need it."

Queensland currently occupies fourth spot on the table but has not won a game since defeating Perth on October 15.

It is hoped that the addition of Mori will add potency to a forward line that has found it difficult to score goals lately, netting just one in almost 500 minutes of football.

"He's a proven goal-scorer at this level and of course he's the all-time leading goal-scorer for Australia. He was in great form during his sport spell with Central Coast Mariners and we're hoping he can reproduce that form for us," Farina said.

Mori was surprised but delighted to receive the call-up from the former Socceroos manager.

"I got the call from Frank (Farina) yesterday (Tuesday) and my situation with the Mariners was such that I was unable to sign for any longer. It was great to hear from him because for me it's all about playing games."

"I love playing football and I want to play finals football. Signing for Queensland will hopefully give me the chance to do that," Mori said.

The productive striker is optimistic about the Roar's chances this season but noted the importance of attaining positive results leading in to the finals.

"There are still several teams that can make the finals and for us now it's all about getting on a good run. Every team has something to play for and if we can get a couple of wins on the trot then we're right back in there again. Queensland are still in fourth place as we speak so we have the platform to build on already and it's all about getting on a run from here."

"There are still eight games to go before the finals and I'm very confident that we can turn the season around from here."

Mori will join up with his new team-mates on Thursday ahead of Friday night's clash against Sydney FC.

haha, nice one.

It's funny that nobody was after him full-time until now. He proved last season and again with the Mariners that he's still the best finisher in the country. Not the best player, or even the best striker, mind you - but on pure finishing ability he's still right up there.

Yeah Mori a Roar player til season's end but still really weird how no one picked him up last year. Perth Glory thought he was too old but then he went to them on a one-year deal. Again overlooked in pre-season snapped by Mariners revelation at CCM contract expired went to Roar

Probably Reinaldo. Although you're right they are overloaded with strikers. I suppose it all comes down to Farina and how he wants to play, as in who's best suited to Mori.
