Blackburn Rovers have pulled out of negotiations with Porto over the proposed tranfer of Benni McCarthy.
Rovers have made two approaches for the star striker this summer and have withdrawn their latest bid after talks between the two clubs stalled. "We do not have an agreement," Blackburn chief executive John Williams told Maisfutebol. "(Porto) knew what they wanted and presented their conditions to us but they did not have the idea of going any further." Apparently Porto were unwilling to lower their £6 million valuation of the South African international. The English outfit reportedly made an initial offer of £4million and then an increased offer was lodged over the weekend, but Porto refused to budge. "I made a great effort to sign the player, but we did not obtain him, therefore we have to leave it and look at another solution," Williams added. Meanwhile McCarthy's agent Rob Moore revealed his disappointment after the move broke down. "We do not understand why they have not reached agreement. It was a good proposal for the club." Moore said. Blackburn boss Mark Hughes will now turn his attention elsewhere as he seeks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season. |
