Everton Football Club has confirmed it is in talks to move out of Liverpool to a new site in neighbouring Knowsley.

Shareholders were told of plans to move from Goodison Park to a new purpose built stadium in Kirkby at the club's AGM on Monday night.

A statement from Knowsley Council said the site - which would include a Tesco superstore - would regenerate Kirkby.

Everton, Tesco and Knowsley Council have said they want to involve the local community in their plans.

Sir Terry Leahy, the chief executive of Tesco, was raised in Liverpool and is a passionate Evertonian.

Moyes looks tired and dispirited. ‘I’m looking forward to strengthening the team in January,’ he says. ‘I’ve got a couple of solid players I’m hoping to lure from the local Sainsburys
