More than a few posts in here complaining just about Liverpool.

Credit Arsenal, just a bit? Aliadière, Baptista, Denílson, Cesc, SONG & Djourou were particularly good I thought.

No surprise that Cesc had a decent game. But a real surprise to see Song playing so well.

Liverpool's team consisted of a lot of players who had Champions League experience - some of whom played & won a final. Whereas, most of the Arsenal team were youth/reserve players, some of whom haven't even played in the Premiership.

Rafa picked a team capable of winning (in his mind) and at the start of the game, the commentators & Liverpool fans I knew, were NOT surprised and expected them to do a job, lead by Stevie 'The Super World class Player Legend' Gerrard. But our kids made a mockery of them.

And I was disappointed that Touré and a good backline accompanying him conceded 3 goals. Good confidence booster for Baptista, even if it was easier than a training game when Aliadière did the work and fed him the balls.

What a disappointing night, We scord three goals at home and still lost. It shows Gabriel Paletta isnt ready for the first team, He made Aliadiere look good, I think he was at fault for three of the goals and Dudek was at fault for one goal...so that means we should have won 3-2 Wink

I just hope we dont take our cup form over to the league.

well i`m no expert but its a bit unfair to insult Alliadiere with a comment like that , the commentators and the panel all rated Alliadiere as having played brilliant or he was outstanding ...now would Arsene Wenger publicly state that he wants to keep Alliadiere if he did not rate the lad ...Alliadiere is a good player ...whether or not he leaves Arsenal is uncertain at the moment but i think he desrves some credit for his performance against Liverpool .

I suppose I should give Aliadiere for taking advantage of Paletta's poor defending but he made it too easy for Aliadiere. Paletta was brushed aside on two of the goals, was easily beaten and he didnt track Aliadiere for the first goal.

You have a good point there, we only had four youngsters on so we really should have done better.

When I seen the two line-ups, I predicted a tight game and if we could nick a draw I would have been happy.

When the 4th Arsenal goal went in it was a comedy show for Liverpool. But in saying that, when I seen the Liverpool team-sheet for the F.A Cup game there, I expected a strong performance with Liverpool and a great threat - whereas in truth, it was another one of our easiest wins this season, just like the League game at the Grove when we walked a 3-0 win.

Yep agree with that. Liverpool were good but Arsenal were alot better. In 2-3 years time Asenal will dominate world football & will win trophy after trophy after trophy. No team in europe will stand a chance against them, not Liverpool not Barcelona not United not Chelsea not Inter NOBODY will have a chance. Im already scared about them facing United in a few weeks Sad

I'm a bit late with this post, but I never would have thought I'd be in the Anfield Road stand surrounded by fans chanting "We want 7".
But, it happened yesterday Cool

Michael Jackson has signed for Liverpool FC

Apparently the prospect of being spanked at home by 11 kids was too good to turn down.

Tennis players can afford to do that because they have the length of their arms, plus the length of the racket as an extension to reach the ball and so have a large advantage on goalkeepers in football, no?

Not really mate. A racket doesn't make that much difference, especially on a back-hand where a tennis player has to play across his/her body. Goalkeepers have a smaller area to cover than a tennis player and you also need to remember that a tennis player isn't able to dive quite like a goalkeeper.

ForeverUnited wrote:
When Dudek has a little jump before his dive, not only is he making a move which could work against him by taking that split second but think about this...... After he makes that jump, the next move he makes has to be decisive because he has just set himself up to dive and through this he is putting his body more off balance than it would be if he was standing alert and ready to make the save when he sees fit.

The small jump takes a split-second for a tennis player as well. After the jump, the next move that the goalkeeper makes should be decisive as the ball will be hurtling towards him. Just because he has to be decisive, this doesn't mean he is more likely to make a wrong decision. The goalie can still decide to jump left, jump right, stay where he is or even more to his left/right without diving. After a small jump, you're not commited to a restricted number of options. What the goalie should be doing is timing his small jump so that is occurs early enough for him to react to the situation. This should prevent him from losing that split-second.

ForeverUnited wrote:
And then you look at what would happen if someone hits a shot and Dudek makes that preliminary jump again and the shot takes a deflection, I believe it leaves him more vulnerable to be caught out by it.

Why is that? I don't see that a small jump makes a goalie more commited to any particular action. If anything, it gives him more options.

ForeverUnited wrote:
That jump is something keepers do on penalties because the ball is being hit at the goal from a shot distance and they have to make a split second decision. You shouldn't do that in other circumstances, and I think that he is making a mistake by doing so.

Surely if it allows a keeper to react more quickly in a penalty situation then he should have the same advantage in a freekick/long shot situation? Also, after performing a small jump a keeper is able to dive quicker and further due to the release of energy that you can get when the body goes into compression. This has to be a good thing, right?

As I said before, I haven't see the Dudek jump and so I can't really comment on that particular situation. I'm just trying to visualise what Dudek is doing and put forward some other possibilities. Over to you Forev. Smile
