turbulent Bundesliga week continues, with Hamburg’s Thomas Doll being the third coach to leave his club within twenty-four hours.
Hamburg officials confirmed on Thursday morning that Doll had been dismissed just a day after Jupp Heynckes resigned at Borussia Monchengladbach and Felix Magath was sacked by Bayern Munich.
Wednesday’s 1-1 home draw with Energie Cottbus left Hamburg bottom of the Bundesliga table and obviously proved to be the last straw for the club’s board.
“Of course, I’m very sad,” Doll told reporters on Thursday morning.
“I had two-and-a-half fantastic years at HSV. I hope that the team can still turn the corner.”
Doll took over on the bench in Hamburg in October 2004, leading the club from the bottom of the table into the UEFA
Champions League during his time in charge.
Hamburg is the only club to have been in the German top flight since the Bundesliga began in 1963.
Press speculation is already linking former HSV playmaker Felix Magath with a return to the AOL Arena as Doll’s successor.
