Kroldrup set to seal Everton move |
|
Udinese's Denmark defender Per Kroldrup has arrived on Merseyside to complete his £5m move to Everton.
The powerful 25-year-old was a key figure as the Italian side qualified for the Champions League after they finished fourth in Serie A last season. He will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms, with Everton expecting the move to go smoothly. Kroldrup will be Everton's second summer signing after the £4m capture of Simon Davies from Spurs. Everton boss David Moyes turned to him after being put off by Manchester City, who wanted £7m for Sylvain Distin. And Kroldrup is relishing the prospect of joining the Toffees. He spoke to former Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen - now at Real Madrid - before Denmark's 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Albania two weeks ago. "Everton's interest was only a rumour then, but Thomas said nice things about the club and they appeal to me," Kroldrup revealed. "It is a very interesting club and the Premier League is one of the best in the world, and it would be a great thing for me to play there. "Everton have just qualified for the Champions League and seem to be very ambitious, but I will have to wait and see what happens." Former Denmark international Jan Molby believes Moyes has pulled off a coup by landing Kroldrup. He told Everton's club website: "If David Moyes is looking for a centre-half with a bit of authority who can go straight into the Premiership from day one, he's the right man. "Arsenal were linked with him recently, which underlines his pedigree - and I think his three years in Italy will have given him some invaluable experience." Meanwhile, Moyes has appeared to rule out a move for Norwich's newly-capped England goalkeeper Robert Green. Everton were linked with a £2.5m move for the 25-year-old, with first-choice Nigel Martyn 38, and deputy Richard Wright troubled by injuries and poor form. But Moyes said: "I'm happy with the goalkeeping situation we have here." |
