Derry sign Man Utd youngster Moran |

Derry City manager Pat Fenlon has drafted in teenage striker Kyle Moran and offered a trial to former Shelbourne goalkeeper Dean Delaney.
Dundalk native Moran, who played for the Manchester United reserves last season, impressed in a recent trial at the Brandywell. The 19-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the Candystripes and effectively replaces Stephen O’Flynn, who left Derry for Galway United at the end of last season. Moran will battle it out with incumbents Gary Beckett, Mark Farren and Kevin McHugh for a strike role in Fenlon’s side. Delaney, meanwhile, has arrived in Derry for a trial after following Fenlon in the mass exodus from Shelbourne in the wake of the eircom League triumph in November. The former Everton and Port Vale netminder – a free agent since the end of last season – was said to have been interested in signing a new deal with Shels, but the club’s ongoing financial problems have forced him to look elsewhere. The 26-year-old shared goalkeeping duties with Steve Williams during two full seasons at Tolka Park, playing 16 times in the league last season as the Fenlon’s Reds lifted the eircom League crown. Derry require a new goalkeeper at Derry after David Forde’s move to Cardiff City, and Delaney will get the chance to impress during Thursday night’s pre-season friendly against Dundalk. |
