Perhaps the most frustrating thing to me is Benetiz trying to make Liverpool a Spanish club.
He keeps the spanish players and calls them 'huge losses'(garica) when they're injured, and in the transfer window, he brings more spanish players in. Whatever happened to ENGLISH talent. Where are all the 19-20 old players trying to make a name for themselves? Where's the 17 yr old Michael Owen type players? Now that there's more funds available for the Summer, I hope the Reds get some good quality players added to the team and not just more spanish players who can't kick for crap. |

So what your saying is Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia and Jose Reina can't kick for crap?
Alot of teams would want 1 if not all 3 in their side as they are amazing players and very influentional. Also as you say Rafa ''keeps buying Spanish players'' Ask yourself who was the last Spanish player he bought? Fernando Morientes nearly 2 years ago? He bought Alonso & Garcia, he also got Josemi and Nunez free from Real Madrid in exchange for Owen & £8m. So thats 4 in one transfer window, he then in January 2005 got Morientes and he hasn't bought a Spanish player since except Reina in the summer of 2005 after we won the European Cup. So NO he doesn't only buy Spanish players he has bought 6 in 2 and a half years, also what does it matter on the nationality of a player? Secondly, you said where are all the youngsters coming through? Trust me they are there but they are probably not even good enough thats why he buys players instead of using our homegrown talent, who can blame him after some of their displays against Arsenal in the Cup? |

Well he did just sign Arbeloa and Duran, so it's a fair point. And all the talk is that if we do make a 'huge money' signing the first choice will be Villa.
I would like to see some of this money used to deal with the over-inflated transfer fees that domestic players command in England. That's a major part of the reason why Rafa shops overseas along with the tendency, as putrum just pointed out, for managers to buy - especially initially - a lot of players from their own country's leagues and footballing culture. He needs to strike a better balance which hopefully the extra funds will allow. As for the youngsters coming through, there has been upheaval at the club over the academy's failure to produce much. It seems to be something they are now looking at very seriously. Hopefully that'll be something we see some progress on over the next few years. |

He buys from the market he knows best which is Spain just like Wenger and France plus the fact English players are stupidly overpriced and with him wanting to quite a bit of the team its common sense to get the most out of your money which means buying from other countries. I personally couldnt careless what nationality the players are of course in an ideal world it would be full of British players but the fact is Britain doesnt produce enough talent to cater for 4 top clubs in fact they dont really have enough quality players for more than 1 top club.
Our academy has not been producing talent for a few years now and Rafa knows that but he has had to have time to assess the situation and see whats going wrong then change it and i think he is about to start changing things soon. |
