Newcastle have told Celtic they must strike a permanent deal if they want to sign outcast striker Craig Bellamy.
Everton and Aston Villa are also interested in the 25-year-old, who was on loan at Celtic last season after a bust-up with manager Graeme Souness. Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd said: "We played fair with everyone by letting him go to Celtic on loan since the start of the year. "We wouldn't and couldn't do that again. We won't let him go on loan." Celtic have been given first option to sign the Wales striker, and new boss Gordon Strachan is hopeful of clinching a deal. Shepherd said: "If Celtic come in with an offer everyone knows we will help them in any way we can. "When they took him on loan I promised them first option and I will honour my word." |
