Robinho to leave Man City? |
|
Reports today suggest that striker
Robinho could be set to leave Man City and join Santos in Brazil until the end of the season. This is so he can play regular fooball again and try and earn his place in Brazil's World Cup squad. Do you think he is doing the right thing if he goes back to his home land? Why do you think he has been such a failure in England? He clearly has a lot of talent but just can't seem to produce it for Man City on a regular basis. |

He had a decent start when he first joined but I guess injury and Hughes preferring Bellamy shot his confidence a bit… he was linked to Barcelona for a while but Iv read that even the Barcelona players didn’t think very much of him either
A fresh start in Brazil may give him what he’s looking for… “Attention” |

I thought desire and attitude was his biggest problem.
He's a fool. Leaving Madrid was a big mistake. |

This is the millionth time I have read he will leave Man C ffs. Isnt it getting boring?
He plays good for Brazil, but not so for clubs, maybe he just arent that good, or is a sort of player that the team needs to be built more around him. |

It's difficult to explain. His style of football is unique. I think he is excessivily skillful but doesn't use it in the correct manner on the pitch. Though i remember his debut for Real Madrid and it was scintillating for someone who was just being introduced for the first time - The football just flowed through him. I think it's sad that he must return to Brazil at this stage of his career but it's seems to be a nesserary one for the sake of his career.

Its official!!
Robinho has left Man City and joined Santos on a 6 month loan deal! I'll be very surprised if we ever see him back in England again after this loan comes to an end. Where do you think he will eventually end up? Is he doing the right thing going back home to Brazil? |

Good move for him, not sure what City get from the move.
In Brazil, most likely Santos.
Definitely, he's clearly past his prime and will be adored by the fans over there. |

Going back to Brazil is a massive step back for him and I'm sure when this loan deal has ceased he will be looking to settle back in Europe as quickly as possible, probably not back at Eastlands though. A return to Spain seems the most likely course of action.
I don't think he is in anyway past his prime at 26! |

what a waste of a player

Not a waste at all. It's a step back in terms of the Premier League being better, but he wasn't doing much there anyway, so not a step back overall. He'll be playing regularly, adored by fans, scoring goals and securing his spot for the national team, which he wasn't able to do at Manchester, but most of all he will be happy. Meeting his old friends, his family and so on.
I sometimes get the impression that you guys think that if a player isn't at an English, Spanish or Italian team he's just not worth it, which, imho, is a bit narrow-minded. I honestly believe he's making a good move. If anything, he has already put Brazilian footy and Santos on the news again, which is good for us. EDIT: so Stan was wondering what City would get from this, apparently they will be the first on "the list" (I don't really know how to put in English) when Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso, two upcoming very good players, get negotiated. |

of course its a waste he is one of the most talented players around and he has wasted his talent and ended up going back to a much poorer league
forgive me but im sure your post is based purely on patriotism, if Messi decided to go back to Argentina im sure you would call it a waste |

If Robinho went to play outside of one of the three top European leagues, say to Lyon or Bayern Munich, it wouldn't be a waste because he can still compete at the highest level. Whether South American people like it or not, Europe is the place to be in terms of club football. That's not arrogance but a simple fact. It is where the majority of the best players play.
If Robinho goes back to Santos to spend 6 months there on loan, sorts his head out and gets into the Brazilian team, before returning to a European club next season then it is a good move. If he stays there for any prolonged period of time then he's wasting the best years of his playing career away from the highest level of club football. He is going there not for the competition but because its his comfort zone where he is around family and friends in his home country, playing in a league where he can easily excel. He will be a huge fish in a small(er) pond. It doesn't show ambition. I think we can already say he has wasted his talent to some extent simply by the effort he put in while in England. There was no reason why he couldn't have been a success here. He has the ability. |

At Madrid, he had the potential to become one of the best players in the world. Not only did he have the tricks and the acceleration, but he also weighed in with his fair share of goals and assists too (he was the third highest goalscorer during his stint at the club and second to only Guti in terms of assists). His game was also starting to become more complete. The only thing he lacked was the ability to perform consistently away from home, and being able to influence a game for the full 90 minutes; both of which would have improved given time. For the predicament he's currently in, he only has himself to blame. With the iminent arrival of Ronaldo, I can somewhat understand why he left, although I still question his motives. A move to a bigger club may have been an option had he been patient. But he refused to wait and instead landed himself a move to City. Madrid didn't particularly want to sell him, but he demanded a move away regardless; a decision he is now being made to pay for. It may be satisfying playing in front of fans that adore him, but it pales in comparision to playing in one of the best teams on the planet with many fans located across the globe. I'm sure he'll look back on his career one day and he'll wonder how he went from being one of the most exciting players in the world, to playing in a league full of part timers. |

I think Ben sum it up the best, some players are just maybe more suited in the comfort zone, at least thats what Robinho is at the momemt. Its similar to Adriano at Inter, who really for whatever reasons became a big disappointment and had trouble coping with life there, so went back as well. It takes a lot of work and determination to succeed in the big leagues big clubs in Europe and probably some ppl dont realise that. I think the fact that he doesnt perform in away games is a sign he needs fans support and metally not tough.
This is a good chance for him to sort himself out. If he doesnt regain his form and happiness and develop more he may come back to City a stronger player or move to another European club. |

That's basically the message I was trying to convey, only a bit more Brasileirão-friendly. It's a temporary deal, I agree that if he was to stay here for several years, given the current state of things, it would be a relative waste. I say relative because, if he, for some reason, wasn't to return to Europe, the Brazilian league would have a major asset in its hands. Everyone would be thrilled to have him playing over here, the league would gain a different status, having Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Fred, Adriano and Robinho playing. Hardly a terrible championship. It wouldn't be such a waste for him either, he'd still be a hero in Brazil, he'd still be called for the national team, he'd still make relatively big bucks (not as huge as Europe bucks, but still). There are downsides, of course, but they're obvious |
