Football statistics in coaching

Hello all. My name is Lee Gladwin and I'm an IT student at Edge Hill University. I'm about to do my final project and would like to ask some questions, if I may.

For my project I am looking to develop a software application that handles football statistics. Imagine if you can a recording of a match playing on-screen and the user is able to enter statistical information such as passes, headers, dribbles to and from etc etc. From this information a series of reports could be generated to help the coaching and managing of players.

I don't know if you are aware of a similar commercial application named 'ProZone'. ProZone records such details automatically using motion-sensing technology hooked up to multiple video cameras around the football stadium. My research finds that premiership clubs pay around £100,000 - £130,000 a year for these statistics. The application I plan to develop would be similar in nature but wouldn't feature the motion-sensing technology and would require manual input of data. However, I plan to make this software freely available over the Internet.

So my question is... as football coaches at various levels - do you think this software be of any use to you? And if so, what would be your main use for it?

If anyone is aware of the football management game 'Championship Manager 2007' you will be able to see exactly the sort of thing I'm trying to achieve by looking at the included ProZone element of the game.

My view is the pro-zone stats should be available at every level especially Sunday league football to show players what they are doing right or wrong.
I believe manually enter data while watching a game would be very hard as you would need 1 person to do data for each player on the pitch. Also it would not be possible to collect proper data form a television game because you can only see
40% of the picth at the best and the tv camera does not see what is important in palyers movement except with the player cam with Sky Sports.
