Mariners snap up Owens |

The Central Coast Mariners have signed former Adelaide United midfielder Greg Owens.
Owens, who left Adelaide last month after agreeing a release from the club, will strengthen a squad already boosted by the captures of Sasho Petrovski and Mile Jedinak. "We're obviously delighted to have landed a player of Greg Owens' ability," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman. "In 2006/07, his performances were as good as any other attacking player in the Hyundai A-League, and I'm excited at the prospect of seeing him replicate his recent form in a yellow and navy shirt in 2007/08." "As we've stated previously, we're leaving no stone unturned in giving ourselves the best possible chance for success in season three and Owens' signing is another significant step in this process." "At this stage, several months out from the season, we're very contented with how well we are placed in terms of recruitment. While realising that there is still room for improvement, we are delighted to have already attracted the likes of Petrovski, Jedinak and Owens, players of the highest calibre, in addition to finally having a fully fit Nik Mrdja back on deck for next season." Owens, 26, made 21 appearances for Adelaide United in the 2006/07 A-League season, scoring four times. |

certainly was a wasted talent last season. Should have been used, is very capable in a number of positions.

Aye, would've liked him at the Jets to add some depth to our squad. He lives here as well, lives about 5 minutes away from me.
The Mariners should be much more lethal up front with the addition of Petrovski and Owens. No more Adam "couldn't hit the side of a barn door" Kwasnik leading their front line. |

Yeah, a very good signing. The Mariners are making some good signings so far and from what I gather he should be much happier being closer to home and working with someone like McKinna as opposed to Kossie.
