ok the latest on the tennis circuit ...

World Number 1 Roger Federer suffered his first defeat since losing to Andy Murray last year , Federer had been closing in on the 46 match record streak held by Guillermo Vilas . His 41 match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end when he was shocked by Guillerma Canas 7-5 62 at the Indain Wells Masters in California .

The Argentinain had only returned to the game last september after a 15 month suspension for doping offences and was obviously delighted at the result .
"It's great to beat the number one, I feel perfect," said the 29-year-old. "I dream about this, but I didn't expect."

Federer had won the last 3 titles at Indian Wells but refused to blame the defeat on the pressure of his unbeaten run . "You think it's pressure? It's no pressure at all because I take it match by match," Federer added "You think it's pressure? It's no pressure at all because I take it match by match," Federer added" So I'm really happy about that. Sooner or later it had to happen, so it's OK. It's no problem

Scotlands`s Andy Murray came through a tough match with world number 4 Nicholas Davydenko 7-6 6-4 and will now face Tommy Haas in the quarter finals

In the womens draw at Indain Wells there were a few shocks too ...

Top seed Maria Sharapova suffered an upset going down to the Russian Vera Zvonareva 4-6 7-5 6-1 ...the defeat means that Sharapova will also lose the number one spot in the World Rankings on Tuesday or Belgian Justine Henin-Hardene

Number 3 seed Martina Hingis also lost , beaten by Daniella Hantuchova 6-4 6-3 ..this was her second loss against the Slovakian in quick succesion after the defeat by her in the quarter finals of the Quatar Total Open last month

Roger needs a break, he can't play 7 days a week
so it's good for him Wink

As for ShutUpOva, I am not shocked that she lost,
but to whom she lost! The biggest nutcase on the tour Laughing
Well done Vera Cool

I watched the Vera v Screecher match , screecher's serve totally disappeared , but Vera did well to hang in the second set and win it. Couldn't believe the score line in the 3rd , doubt I'll see it again. I like watching Vera play , you never know what's gonna happen Wink

I like watching her play too, when she has a good day and is in a good mood Wink
When she starts losing, she hits herself with the racket,
throws it around and gets so frustrated that loses matches she shouldn't lose.
I'm glad she held the nerve against Sharapova then Twisted Evil

it seems that Sharascreecherpova ... Wink every so often completely falls apart . Martina Hingis seems to do that also ...against Hantuchova last month ..Hingis was killing her and then bam !!! lost it completely .

Hasn't that been a record damage for something he was going to overtake Jimmy Connors in??

read my opening post for that ...not Jimmy Conners record though .

Daniella Hantuchova won her second career title with a 6-3 6-4 win over Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final of the Pacific Open at Indain Wells . Strangely her first career title was also at Indian Wells in 2002 when she beat Martina Hingis at the Pacific Open fianl . She will now rise from 18 to 12 in the world rankings .

In the mens final Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic 6-2 7-5 , Djokovic had beaten Andy Murray in the semi-final but the world number 2 was too good for the Serbian despite a second set fighback ...the 19 yr old will however break into the top 10 for the first time in the ATP rankings by reaching the final so it has been a good week for the teenager ..
