There are loads of sports courses I have applied for Sports development and coaching at 4 universities and 1 university for football studies. Its about 240 points to get into sports development and around 180 for football studies though it only run at few universities southampton solent, liverpool and bedford are the ones I know that run it. To find out more about the courses or find others there a great website called whatuni.

I have a degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences.
More and more Universities are doing sports coaching now. All are pretty good courses. However actually getting a job in Sport after completing the degree has proven difficult so far! |

Well, I'll be doing the same course as Caz come September.
How long has it been for you since you finished uni Caz? And have you managed to use the degree for a job yet? I'd actually like to know a bit more myself. I chose the course because its something i love studying. Never thought about a job afterwards |

Thats cool Tom. Which Uni you going to?
I done mine at Sunderland and graduated July 2008. Well I think it helped a lot for my job in the USA and if I had wanted to I could have applied for a 3 year visa to stay out there because of having the degree. But it did not work out for me where I was. My advice would be to try and get work in sport whilst doing your degree, even voluntary things as well. I hadn't really thought about a job afterwards either Tom. As my intial plan was to then do my PGCE to become a teacher but the cost and how many people do that and still cannot get a job made me change my mind on that. |

I'm going to Chester Uni Caz.
That sounds like a pretty good experience, going to USA. What did you do out there exactly? |

Hi there folks
At the risk of sounding pessimistic, Degrees in football and related studies whilst being nice to have, are basically another avenue to the same point. Which is a job in professional football / sport. These jobs are few and far between and most definitely fall into the jobs for the boys categories. In other words i would suggest that the majority of the positions will be filled by people who come from a professional playing background or very close to it. Infact many are groomed for these roles before the end of their playing careers. My advice would be that if you are going to go down this particular route, try to have an idea of what you actually want to do with your qualification. Research thoroughly the jobs available in the field and if possible the backgrounds of those in that position. These qualifications are very specific and may not prove that beneficial if looking for employment outside of the sector. There is already a situation where a high % of graduates find it difficult to get jobs and many end up with jobs unrelated to their degrees especially where the qualifications are very specific. Please dont be put off, but make informed choices and decisions. Dont just do something because it appeals and then think about what you want to do later. As with most things, better prepared generally produces better outcomes. |

Good advice (for once, haha)!!! However, if you wish to work abroad in professional football/sport, most places require a related degree or equivalent qualifications. In addition, if you do not have a professional background in sport, a degree can give you the opportunity to combine work experience with academic study (however, it is a lengthy option, so be sure it is what you want)!!! |
