Roy O’Donovan scored twice as Cork City ended their wait for a victory in 2007 with an emphatic triumph over Portadown at Turners Cross on Tuesday night.
The game was level at the break but O’Donovan scored twice in the second half and Cillian Lordan and Ray Lally were also on target for the Leesiders.
The deadlock was broken within 60 seconds of the second half, finishing past Kevin Pressman from just inside the penalty area.
Lordan doubled the advantage on the hour mark with a fine strike from 25 yards, before O’Donovan grabbed his second of the night after a mistake by Pressman on 76 minutes.
The Ireland ‘B’ international missed a penalty to complete his hat-trick when Pressman saved his kick four minutes later, but promising youngster Lally eventually made it four in injury time. |
No idea how strong Portadown are but it's good to see such an emphatic victory for Cork. The confidence would be a little down after a disappointing start to the season so hopefully this result will kick start their push for the league championship.
