Right then fellas, it seems to be that time of the year once more - rumours have already started to circulate. No doubt Jol will be looking to add a few quality players to the squad before the next campaign, but who will these players be? What players would we all like to see come in and which positions need strengthening?
If anyone comes across any speculation (no matter how obscure) then it'd be great if they could slap it in this thread so we have all the rumours/possibilities in one place. Here are a couple of names to start us off:

Younes Kaboul from Auxerre for £7.5m.
Joey Barton from Man City for £5.5m.
Andrea Caracciolo from Palermo.

Don't fancy Barton at all. Decent player but has a bad attitude and wouldn't be happy to sit on the bench. We don't need him. Can't really comment on the other two but Kaboul sounds promising from what I've read.

Let the list begin... Smile

Ok, got some new stuff.

Some time ago there was some chatter about us trialling a 'young Berbatov'.

Quote:
"Levski striker Nasko Kurdov is just a step away from signing with Tottenham," football manager Emil Danchev revealed.

According to Emil Danchev, who is also Berbatov's manager, Levski youth player has quickly turned into Tottenham favourite. Presently, Kurdov is at tests in the English club.

"We have to wait for a couple of days, but Tottenham coach Martin Jol said very nice words about Kurdov. Tottenham captain Ledley King also praised Nasko Kurdov during his first practice and said: "Very good footballer. He only has to improve his strength and physical shape!," Danchev stated.

At the same time, Levski managers took urgent measures to quench the interest in another youth player - Boyan Tabakov. Tabakov was forbidden to meet with football agents.

"Boyan has to get concentrated on the football game not on meeting managers," Levski coach Stanimir Stoilov ordered.

Emil Dantchev is Berbatov's manager, so there must be something in this story. It comes from standartnews.com, no idea how credible they are.

Meanwhile, this was on the Levski site on May 3:

Quote:
Meanwhile, it transpired, that the Blues have placed a sort of an ultimatum to their young talent Nasko Kurdov, who is already dreaming of a promising career in England. The striker has seven days to choose between Levski and FC Tottenham, where he passed tests.

Everything about Kurdov's future will become clear next week. We are honored to have a player invited to play in an English club, but he still has his moral duties to Levski," sources from FC Levski told the Standart.

'FC Tottenham' Smile Crazy foreigners.

Good stuff Jono, sounds like he could be a good find. How old is this guy?

Here's a few more:
Curtis Davies from West Brom. Source: several UK newspapers.
Distel Zola from Monaco. Source: Daily Mirror.
Javier Saviola from Barca on a free this summer. Source: The People.
Darren Bent from Charlton. Source: several UK newspapers.

What positions do we really need to improve upon? I would say a natural LM (Robben?), a LB (Bale or Bridge?), a CB (Davies or Kaboul?) and a replacement for Mido (Kurdov, Bent or Zigic?) So, four signings then, and it's important that at least a couple of them are real quality and not just a quick-fix solution. Hopefully Cerny and Alnwick will see us through next season on the goalkeeping front, so we should be OK there.

Some more, reported ITK but havent heard much about the guy myself.

Kaboul is in final negotiations- could be announced within 10 days.

Giles Barnes is a done deal but Derby still need to get promoted(or not) first to finally put pen to paper.

Bale is still in the balance and The Arse are still sniffing around him- we want Baines if we dont get him

We are after a youngster from Germany also.

Ive also been told we will sign a big name!(not that again)

and im 90% certain Mido will be gone- he hasnt played since the last bust up after the Chelsea game- Bent seems the obvious choice but West Ham will go all out for him if they stay up.

Nigel Reo Coker should still be on also.

Looks like there could be several changes over the summer then, although it's still very early days. Which players can you see leaving the club Jono? At the moment it looks to me like Lee, Gardner and Mido are almost certainly going to be shipped out, assuming we manage to recruit their replacements. BAE, Rocha and Berbatov will likely stay at Spurs in their respective positions.

Yeah, I agree with you about Murphy and Routledge, they're not the kind of players who can take us forward. I'd like to see Gardner stay if he can stay injury-free and as long as he doesn't mind a bit (or perhaps a lot) of competition. To be honest though, he doesn't strike me as the kind of person who'd ever actually want to leave the Club.

Yea Gardner to stay as back up, he did really well on the left agsint Charlton for the second half the other day.

Quickest man at the club apparently, old Anthony.

Spot on Jono

He's name is Kevin Boateng of Hertha Berlin 20 year old versatile midfielder. a fee of £4 million could get him, hope he ain't anything like Boro's George Boateng he's a dirty bar-steward.

We are also being linked to Kieron Dyer. ( i hope this ain't true )

There is continuous chatter around the Spurs messageboards that Spurs are going to make one BIG signing this off season.

Some speculate that it will be Robben, but some ITKs report it will be a striker better than Berbatov to replace the outgoing Defoe.

Don't get me wrong Jono, I'd love a big name signing to raise the profile of the club, but do we really need another striker? If this guy came in to replace Defoe, then I'd assume he'd be wanting regular football (if he's a big name player), so who would miss out? Keane? Berbatov?
The thing is, our current strike-force has scored over 60 goals between them this season in all competitions so I don't see the need to fix something which isn't broken. We could easily strengthen our strike-force by going in for someone such as Bent. If we managed to add him to the squad then we'd have four forwards capable of netting 25+ per season each, and it'd also be cheaper than bringing in a 'big name'. Add to that the fact that Bent is English and has showed he can succeed in the EPL and I think we'd be onto a sure winner.
I sincerely hope we don't splash £20m+ on a single player - we could get two or three class-acts for that money.
It's exciting news nevertheless, but I suppose I'm just trying to be practical. Smile

Hope it is Robben, but can't see it myself. Sad

Add Ghaly to the list of those getting shipped on, cant let him wear that shirt again after disrespecting it like that.

I dunno if this is true or not, but Ghaly was told before tonite's game he's off in
the summer. Still no excuse for his poor display ( not for the 1st time this season ) and disrespect of the shirt.

Just a note on the Bent news: Saying personal terms are agreed with player but doesnt mean a certainty as another club could still come in and hijack the deal.

And Defoe is leaving, already had several offers but hes hoping for a bigger club to come in and make a offer.

Jono you beauty!! That's exactly what I wanted to hear. If all this goes through then all we really need is a LM in my opinion. Another CD and CM wouldn't go amiss, but they're not quite so vital. Now we just need to make sure we qualify for the UEFA Cup so that we have enough matches to keep those four top quality strikers busy.

Mido and Ghaly can travel back to Egypy together and reminisce about the time they spent at the Mighty Spurs: how very fitting.

COYS!

edit: I preferred the other post Jono, scrap that last one please. Wink
